Simultaneous equation refer to a pair of equations that are solved at the same time.

What is a simultaneous equation?

A simultaneous equation refer to a pair of equations that are solved at the same time.

For problem 1;

x = 4 - y ------ (1)

y^2 = 3x + 19 ----- (2)

Substitute (1) into (2)

y^2 = 3(4 - y) + 19

y^2 = 12 - 3y + 19

y^2 +3y - 31 =0

y = 4.27 or -7.27

x = 4 - 4.27 = 0.27

or

x = 4 - (-7.27) = 11.27

For the second problem;

x = 7 - y

y^2 = 5x - 15

Substitute (1) into (2)

y^2 = 5(7 - y) - 15

y^2 =35 -5y -15

y^2 + 5y - 20 = 0

y =2.62 or -7.62

x = 7 - 2.62 = 4.38

OR

x=  7 - (-7.62) = 14.62

Tara has 4 4/5 feet of rope. Part A: How many 2/5 foot pieces can Tara cut from the 4 4/5 feet of rope? Show your work. Part B:
aleksley [76]

Answer:

Part A

12 pieces

Part B

Tara can cut Twelve 2/5 foot pieces can be cut from 4 4/5 feet of rope.

Step-by-step explanation:

Part A: How many 2/5 foot pieces can Tara cut from the 4 4/5 feet of rope?

This is calculated as:

4 4/5 feet of rope ÷ 2/5 foot pieces

= 24/5 ÷ 2/5

= 24/5 × 5/2

= 12

Part B: Using the information in Part A, interpret the meaning of the quotient in terms of the two fractions given

The quotient in Part A is 12

Therefore, this can be interpreted as:

Tara can cut Twelve 2/5 foot pieces can be cut from 4 4/5 feet of rope.

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

x = 1/2 (1 +\- i sqrt(23))

Discussion:

x \3x - 2 =   (x/3)*x - 2   =  (x^2)/3 - 2     (*)

1 \3x - 4   =  (1/3)x - 4                               (**)

(*) = (**)   =>

(x^2)/3 -2 = (1/3)x - 4        => multiply both sides by 3

x^2 - 6 = x - 12                 => subtract x from both sides

x^2 -x -6 = -12                   => add 12 to both sides

x^2-x +6  = 0

Using the quadratic formula gives:

x = 1/2 (1 +\- i sqrt(23))

Thank you,

MrB

I need help with these two questions
Mandarinka [93]

Answer:

(-2,-2)

Step-by-step explanation:

for question number 15...cordinated grid shows each equation...first equation is represented by straight line going upwards through +4 in y axis...(y=3x+4)...

point is....every point in this two lines represent a possible x and y value for each equation...and there is a point where these lines meet each other....in that point...x and y values are possible values for both equations.so answer is (-2,-2)...this cordination satisfy each pairs of equation...you can try using -2 for x in both equations and get -2 as the answer for y...that proves the point..try it for 16 quiz.good luck
