Aliza needs to run at a rate faster than 8.2 feet per second in order to exceed her fastest time in a race. After running for 15

minutes, her coach determines that she is running at an average rate of 5.8 miles per hour. He converts the average rate to feet per second as shown below:
He concludes that she is not running fast enough to exceed her fastest time.

The coach's errors are;

  • Wrong conversion when converting hour to seconds
  • The wrong conclusion since Eliza was running fast enough at a speed of 34ft/s compared to 8.8ft/s

<h3>What is speed?</h3>

Speed is defined as the ratio of the time distance travelled by the body to the time taken by the body to cover the distance.

Given the speed that Aliza needs to run in order to exceed her fastest time in a race = 8.8 feet per second

If her coach determines that she is running at an average rate of 5.8 miles per hour, we need to first convert the speed her coach assumed to feet per second

Convert 5.8miles to feet per second

According to the coach's conversion

=5.8\times \dfrac{1}{15}\times 5280\times \dfrac{1}{60}

This shows that 5.8mi/hr is equivalent to 34.0ft/s according to the coach conversion rate.

From the coach's calculation, we see that the coach made the first error by using 60s as 1hr instead of 3600s as 1hr

The coach also made an error by saying Eliza is not running fast enough to exceed her fastest time. We can see that Eliza was running fast enough since her speed at 34ft/s exceed 8.8ft/s.

Hence the second error was a wrong conclusion made by the coach.

Which function rule describes the pattern in the table?
lakkis [162]

The correct answer is B.

In order to prove which of the function rules provided is the one corresponding to the schedule represented by the table, the different y-values need to be sustituted in the function rules. <u>Only the correct function rule will yield the corresponding x-value. </u>

<u>Let's prove that option B is the correct one</u>

FUNCTION B y= 5x - 14

  • If x= -4 --> substituting: 5(-4) - 14= -20 - 14= -34 therefore, y= -34 <u>CORRECT</u>
  • If x= -1 --> 5(-1)-14 = -5 - 14= -19 therefore y= -19 <u>CORRECT</u>
  • If x= 2 --> 5(2) - 14=  10-14= -4, therefore y= -4 C<u>ORRECT</u>
  • If x= 4 --> 5(4)-14= 20-14= 6, therefore y=6<u> CORRECT</u>
  • If x= 7 --> 5(7) -14= 35-14= 21, therefore y=21 <u>CORRECT</u>

Why is it important to measure perimeter and area
blagie [28]

Perimeter and area are two important and fundamental mathematical topics. They help you to quantify physical space and also provide a foundation for more advanced mathematics found in algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Perimeter is a measurement of the distance around a shape and area gives us an idea of how much surface the shape covers.

Knowledge of area and perimeter is applied practically by people on a daily basis, such as architects, engineers, and graphic designers, and is math that is very much needed by people in general. Understanding how much space you have and learning how to fit shapes together exactly will help you when you paint a room, buy a home, remodel a kitchen, or build a deck.

If 2004 is split after the third digit into a three-digit integer and a one-digit integer, then the two integers, 200 and 4, hav
Inga [223]

Answer:

2013

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that the year 2004 if split after the third digit into a three-digit integer and a one-digit integer, then the two integers, 200 and 4,

200 and 4 have a common factor 4.

Similarly for year 2005, we have 200 and 5 have a common factor 5

and 2006, 200 and 6 have a common factor 2.

Next odd numbers would be

2007, 2009, 2011, 2015 and so on.

If we split we get 200, 7 or 200, 9, only which do not have this property

Next would be 201, 1 or 201, 3....

201 and 3 have common factor 3

So 2013 is the first odd numbered year after 2006 which has this property
