What is the center and radius of a circle whose equation is x2 + y2 -2x -6y -5 = 0?

Mathematics

ddd [48]2 years ago
4 0

x²+y²-2x-6y-5=0

x²-2x+y²-6y=5

x²-2x+1+y²-6y+9=5+1+9

(x-1)²+(y-3)²=15

(x-1)²+(y-3)²=(V15)²

-> centre of the circle: C(-1,-3)

-> radius of the circle: V15

The graph of ƒ(x) = -√x is shifted to the right five units. The domain of the function represented by this graph is x ≥>≤<
Mars2501 [29]

Answer:

Domain = [5,∞)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: f(x)=-\sqrt{x}

We are given that f(x) is shifted right by 5 units.

Rule : f(x)→f(x-b)

The graph f(x) shifted b units right

So, using rule : -\sqrt{x} → -\sqrt{x-5}

So, g(x)=-\sqrt{x-5}

Now to find domain:

x-5>0

x>5

So, Domain = [5,∞).

For what value of x will the function f(x) = -3(x - 10)(x - 4) have a maximum value? Find the maximum value.
gayaneshka [121]

Hello!

To find the maximum value of the function f(x) = -3(x - 10)(x - 4), the easiest way is to find the vertex using the formula: x = -b/2a.

Firstly, we need to simplify f(x).

f(x) = -3(x - 10)(x - 4)

f(x) = -3(x² - 14x + 40)

f(x) = -3x² + 42x + -120

Since the equation f(x) is now simplified to standard form, we can find the vertex.

a = -3, b = 42, and c = -120

x = -(42)/2(-3) = -42/-6 = 7

Then, we substitute 7 into the the function f(x) = -3(x - 10)(x - 4), or

f(x) = -3x² + 42x + -120, to find the y-value of the vertex.

f(x) = -3(7 - 10)(7 - 4)

f(x) = -3(-3)(4)

f(x) = 27

The vertex of f(x) is (7, 27).

Therefore, the maximum x-value for the function f(x) is 7.
