Calhoun believes that slavery is a positive good because he believes that blacks and whites are brought together through it, and that blacks are more civilized through being forced to do labor than they would be through freedom. He also thought that the decision of antislavery was beyond the jurisdiction of Congress and should therefore be left alone.
