The predicted temperature to the nearest degree fahrenheit, at 9 p.m. is 75 degree fahrenheit.

Functions and values

Given the equation that expresses the temperature, in degrees fahrenheit, in London during a day in august as;

t(x) = 9sin(0.4x - 4) + 74,

where;

x is the number of hours after midnight.

If the time is 9pm after midnight, the total number of hours will be 21 hours

Substitute x = 21 into the function to have;

t(21) = 9sin(0.4(21) - 4) + 74

t(21) = 9sin(4.4) +74
t(21) = 9(0.0767)+74

t(21) = 74.69 degree fahrenheit,

Hence the predicted temperature to the nearest degree fahrenheit, at 9 p.m. is 75 degree fahrenheit.

The predicted temperature is 75° Fahrenheit

What is trigonometric functions?

Trigonometric functions show the relationship between the sides and angles of a triangle.

Analysis:

t(x) = 9sin(0.4x - 4) + 74

since it is 9pm, which is 21 hours from 12 midnight, x = 21

t(21) = 9 sin( 0.4 x 21 - 4) + 74 = 75° Fahrenheit

In conclusion, the predicted temperature at 9pm is 75° Fahrenheit

Need answer ASAP!! Jessica has twice as many CDs as Fran, and Fran has five more than three times as many CDs as Alyssa. Let c =
blsea [12.9K]

Answer:

10 + 6C

Step-by-step explanation:

C = the number of CDs Alyssa has

Alyssa has C CDs

Fran has five more than three times as many CDs as Alyssa.

Fran has 5 + (3 * C)

Fran has (5 + 3C) CDs

Jessica has twice as many CDs as Fran

Jessica has 2 * (5 + 3C) CDs

Jessica has 10 + 6C CDs

Solve the equation. –x + 8 + 3x = x – 6
saul85 [17]
First group the coefficients together on their side of the equal sign.
-x + 3x = 2x.

Then, since it is a positive number, subtract it from that side and the other side.

On the other side, the x becomes -x.

Add the 6 from the other side to the 8 to make 14.

14 = -x

Divide both sides by -1, to get the answer.

x = -14

Find the dimensions of the rectangle of largest area that has its base on the x-axis and its other two vertices above the x-axis
stealth61 [152]

Complete question is;

Find the dimensions of the rectangle of largest area that has its base on the x-axis and its other two vertices above the x-axis and lying on the parabola. (Round your answers to the nearest hundredth.) y = 6 - x²

Answer:

height = 4 and base = 2√2

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of a rectangle is given by;

A = base(b) × height(h)

To start off, we will first have to consider half of the rectangle.

Due to the fact that it is bounded by a parabola which is symmetric over the y-axis, it means that the rectangle will have the same area on the right and left hand sides.

So if we maximize the area of the first quadrant, it means that we are also maximizing the area of the entire rectangle.

Now, since we are dealing with the base and other 2 vertices on the x-axis, it means that the base(b) of this half rectangle will be x.

The height of this rectangle is the y coordinate of the corner that is directly above the x coordinate, which is also on the rectangle.

Therefore, the coordinates of the upper corner will be (x, y), or (x, 6 - x²). Thus our half base is x and full height is 6 - x². Area will be;

A = x(6 - x²)

A = 6x - x³

We will maximize this area by finding the derivative and equating to zero.

Thus;

A' = 6 - 3x²

At A' = 0,we have;

6 - 3x² = 0

3x² = 6

x² = 6/3

x² = 2

x = √2

Thus, from y = 6 - x², we have;

y = 6 - (√2)²

y = 6 - 2

y = 4

Since x is half base, it means our full width is 2x = 2 × √2 = 2√2

So, height = 4 and base = 2√2
