The predicted temperature to the nearest degree fahrenheit, at 9 p.m. is 75 degree fahrenheit.

Functions and values

Given the equation that expresses the temperature, in degrees fahrenheit, in London during a day in august as;

t(x) = 9sin(0.4x - 4) + 74,

where;

x is the number of hours after midnight.

If the time is 9pm after midnight, the total number of hours will be 21 hours

Substitute x = 21 into the function to have;

t(21) = 9sin(0.4(21) - 4) + 74

t(21) = 9sin(4.4) +74
t(21) = 9(0.0767)+74

t(21) = 74.69 degree fahrenheit,

Hence the predicted temperature to the nearest degree fahrenheit, at 9 p.m. is 75 degree fahrenheit.

The predicted temperature is 75° Fahrenheit

What is trigonometric functions?

Trigonometric functions show the relationship between the sides and angles of a triangle.

Analysis:

t(x) = 9sin(0.4x - 4) + 74

since it is 9pm, which is 21 hours from 12 midnight, x = 21

t(21) = 9 sin( 0.4 x 21 - 4) + 74 = 75° Fahrenheit

In conclusion, the predicted temperature at 9pm is 75° Fahrenheit

Use two pints on the graph to find the slope:

(0,0) and (5,1)

Slope = Change in Y over the change in x.

Slope = (1-0) / (5-0) = 1/5 = 0.20

The slope of the given equation is 0.25 which is greater than 0.20.

The unit rate is greater in the equation.
