A large population of mice (2000 individuals) lives in an area dominated by small shrubs in the desert. When the population size

got too high, a small group of 6 individuals left and colonized an area adjacent to the original population's home, but this area is primarily dominated by trees instead of shrubs. There is no gene flow between the dispersers and the original population. A researcher sequenced the genomes of representative individuals from both populations and found substantial genetic differences between them. Which of the following would MOST account for the amount of genetic differences observed?
Divergence between the two populations was caused solely by drift.
Since the original dispersal event, the small population will have evolved more than the large population.
Divergence between the two groups is high because of gene flow between them.
The divergence between populations could only have been caused by stabilizing selection.

Answer:

Since the original dispersal event, the small population will have evolved more than the large population

Explanation:

When the group of 6 individuals left and colonized an area that was different to their initial home, they had to adapt to the new environment and new food resources. Offspring from the small population that had more advantageous characteristics had a better chance of survival than those that did not.

The offspring that had the better chance of survival were the ones that inherited new traits that helped survive in their environment with more trees and thus they would breed with other mice that also survived, passing on these traits to their offspring. The mice that did not inherit these traits, could not survive well and probably died.

The mice from the original population did not need to inherit as many new traits as they were in a familiar environment and thus did not evolve as much as the smaller population.

Answer:

decreases competition between members of the two different butterfly populations.

Explanation:

The choice of different habitats may be beneficial for the populations of butterflies since it enables to both groups to survive and reproduce without the need to compete for limited resources (in this case, the host plants)

Most organisms can be divided into two categories - prokaryotes and eukaryotes. What is the main difference between these two ca
Klio2033 [76]

Answer:

The main difference between Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cell is that, eukaryotes contain membrane bound organelles like nucleus where as prokaryotes do not. The genetic material is present at the center and is called nucleoid in prokaryotes.

Explanation:

Example of prokaryotes include bacteria and archea bacteria. Examples of eukaryotes include plants and animals. Prokaryotes lack organelles such as mitochondria, endoplasmic resticulum and lysosomes which are present in eukaryotes. Both the groups contain ribosomes but its 70s ribosome in prokaryotes and 80s ribosomes in eukaryotes.

All strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) are capable of integrating their double-stranded DNA viral genome into host basal cell
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

Oncogenes.

Explanation:

Cancer is the harmful disease that causes several death in the world. Cancer occur due to the mutation in the genes that are responsible for the regulation of apoptosis  and cell divisions.

The virus are also oncogenic in nature and can cause several different type of cancer. The human papilloma virus can be transmitted from the skin contact. The virus cause cervical cancer and genital warts. The integration of this virus into host genome increases the expression of viral oncogenes in the host DNA.

Thus, the answer is oncogenes.
