The Three Mile Island accident was a nuclear power plant accident that occurred in 1979 and it was one of the most significant and influential nuclear accidents that happened in the US. This accident was categorized as accident with wider consequences that is a 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale which is really bad. This accident raised the awareness of the dangers of nuclear power plants in both the public and the anti-nuclear activists. The government responded by passing numerous regulations that had the goal of preventing this kind of disaster happening again. The incident is also seen as major cause for the decline of the nuclear plants in the US of that period, the 1970s.
