A treasure chest full of silver and gold coins is being lifted from a pirate ship to the shore using two ropes as shown in the f

igure. The mass of the treasure chest is 75.6 kg.
If the tension in rope A is 7.42x10^2 N and the tension rope B carries is 7.52x10^2 N, what is the tension in rope C?

The tension in rope C is determined as 122.23 N.

<h3>Tension in rope C</h3>

The tension in rope C is calculated as follows;

B² = A² + C²

C² = B² - A²

where;

  • C is tension in rope C
  • A is tension in rope A
  • B is tension in rope B

C² = (752²) - (742²)

C² = 14,940

C = √14,940

C = 122.23 N

Thus, the tension in rope C is determined as 122.23 N.

The magnitude of the tangential acceleration of the hanging mass is 2mg/MR

<h3>Tangential acceleration of the hanging mass</h3>

The tangential acceleration of the hanging mass around the pulley is determined from the principle of conservation of angular momentum as shown below;

τ = Iα

Where;

  • I is the moment of inertia
  • α is the angular velocity

\alpha = \frac{\tau}{I} \\\\\alpha = \frac{mgR}{3/2MR^2} \\\\\alpha = \frac{2mgR}{3MR^2} \\\\\alpha = \frac{2mg}{3MR}

Where;

  • m is the hanging mass
  • M is the mass of solid disk

The tangential acceleration is calculated as follows;

a = \alpha R\\\\a = \frac{2mg}{3MR} \times R\\\\a = \frac{2mg}{3M}

Thus, the magnitude of the tangential acceleration of the hanging mass is 2mg/MR

Can a compound be separated by physical means?
Julli [10]

No,  it is not possible.
A compound is a substance or material constituting of two or more elements that have been chemically combined together to form a new, different substance

Any elements that have been joined together chemically can only be separated back into their constituent elements by chemical means because the bonds holding them together can only be broken using chemical means.

A good example is sodium chloride, table salt. Poisonous chlorine gas and toxic sodium metal react together whereby sodium loses one electron which chlorine readily accepts and in the process an ionic bond is formed between the two resulting in a totally new, harmless compound , sodium chloride.

Only through electrolysis can sodium chloride be separated back into sodium and chlorine gas. No physical means can be used to do that.

Compare and contrast electric motors and generators.
Marrrta [24]
Electric motors require electricity to move the motor parts and do work (like an electric fan).

Elecgric generators actually burn diesel fuel to spin a motor around and around and around to GENERATE, or MAKE, electricity that you can then use to power your fans and lights in your house.

A disk rotates freely on a vertical axis with an angular velocity of 30 rpm. An identical disk rotates above it in the same dire
weqwewe [10]

Answer:

c. 25 rpm

Explanation:

The inertia of both disk is the same so

I_1=I_2

I_1*w_{1i}+I_2*w_{2i}=I_1*w_{1f}+I_2*w_{2f}

I*(w_{1i}+w_{2i})=I*(w_{1f}+w_{2f})

w_{1f}=w_{2f}=w_f

w_{1f}+w_{2f}=2w_f

w_f=\frac{w_{1i}+w_{i2}}{2}

w_f=\frac{30rpm+20rpm}{2}

w_f=\frac{50rpm}{2}

w_f=25rpm
