1. There's so much wrong with the suggested solution that it's hard to pinpoint the exact error. The "logic" is inconsistent - why do the x and constant term stay in the denominator but the x^2 term does not?

What should be done is factorization in the numerator and denominator:

x^2 + 2x - 8 = (x + 4) (x - 2)

x^2 + 6x - 16 = (x + 8) (x - 2)

Then in the quotient, the factors of x-2 cancel so that

\dfrac{x^2+2x-8}{x^2+6x-16} = \dfrac{(x+4)(x-2)}{(x+8)(x-2)} = \boxed{\dfrac{x+4}{x+8}}

2. Use the same strategy: factorize everything everything you can, then cancel anything you can.

x^2 - 9 = (x-3) (x+3)

x^2+x-2 = (x+2)(x-1)

x^2+x-12 = (x+4)(x-3)

x^2+6x+8 = (x+4)(x+2)

Then using the algebraic properties of multiplication/division, we have

\dfrac{x^2-9}{x^2+x-2} \div \dfrac{x^2+x-12}{x^2+6x+8} = \dfrac{x^2-9}{x^2+x-2} \times \dfrac{x^2+6x+8}{x^2+x-12} \\\\ ~~~~~~~~= \dfrac{(x-3)(x+3)(x+4)(x+2)}{(x+2)(x-1)(x+4)(x-3)} \\\\ ~~~~~~~~= \boxed{\dfrac{x+3}{x-1}}

The amount of sales (S) of statin in billions of dollars by 2017 is 34.5 billions

<h3>Linear equations</h3>

Linear equation are equation that has a leading degree of 1. Given the equation that represents Statins used to keep cholesterol in check and are a top-selling drug in the U.S.

S-1.5x = 6

where

S is the amount of sales

x is the number of years after 1998

By 2017, the total number of  years is 19 years

Substitute

S = 1.5x + 6

S = 1.5(19) + 6

S = 28.5 + 6

S = 34.5

The amount of sales (S) of statin in billions of dollars by 2017 is 34.5 billions

Kurt used the rule add 4, subtract 1 to generate a pattern. The first term in his pattern is 5. Write a number that could be in
Lady bird [3.3K]
8.

Adding four and subtracting one is the same as adding three. So, to see if a number can be in this pattern, subtract five and check if the result is a multiple of three. If it is, it can be in the pattern.

Fun fact: to check if something is a multiple of three, add all the digits up and see if that is a multiple of three. If you don’t know, repeat the process of adding the digits.

Answer:

Rs. 18000

Step-by-step explanation:

x(1 + 25\%) \:   (1 - 15\%) - x = 900

1.0625x - x = 900

0.0625x = 900

x = 14400
