2. An ecological pyramid is also called as trophic pyramid or energy pyramid. It is a graphical representation that indicates the biomass at each trophic level in a given ecosystem. It is the total amount of energy that is consumed at each trophic level in a given food chain.

3. It follows that the carnivores (secondary consumers) that feed on herbivores and detritivores and those that eat other carnivores (tertiary consumers) have the lowest amount of energy available to them.

4. Energy decreases as it moves up trophic levels because energy is lost as metabolic heat when the organisms from one trophic level are consumed by organisms from the next level. Trophic level transfer efficiency (TLTE) measures the amount of energy that is transferred between trophic levels.
