Samples of rejuvenated mitochondria are mutated (defective) in 1% of cases. Suppose 18 samples are studied, and they can be cons

idered to be independent for mutation. Determine the following probabilities.(a) No samples are mutated.(b) At most one sample is mutated.(c) More than half the samples are mutated.Round your answers to two decimal places (e.g. 98.76).

Probability that no samples are mutated is 0.83, probability that at most one sample is mutated is 0.9812 and probability that more than half the samples are mutated is 0.

Given percentage of rejuvenated mitochondria defective is 1%, and sample size is 18.

Binomial distribution is the probability of exactly x successes on n repeated trials and X can have two outcomes.

P(X=x)=C_{n,x} p^{x}(1-p)^{n-x}

percentage of defective rejuvendated mitochondria=1%

p=0.01

Sample size=18

n=18

a) No samples are mutated

This means P(X=0)=C_{18,0}(0.01)^{0} (0.99)^{18}

=0.83

b) At most one sample is mutated.

P(X<=1)=P(X=0)+P(X=1)

so,

P(X=0)=C_{18,0} (0.01)^{0}  (0.99)^{18}

=0.83

P(X=1)=C_{18,1}(0.01)^{1} (0.99)^{17}=

=0.1512

P(X<=1)=0.83+0.1512

=0.9812

c) More than half the samples are mutated.

P(X>9)=P(X=10)+P(X=11)+P(X=12)+P(X=13)+P(X=14)+P(X=15)+P(X=16)+P(X=17)+P(X=18)

Using two decimals digits precision all will be 0.

Hence Probability that no samples are mutated is 0.83, probability that at most one sample is mutated is 0.9812 and probability that more than half the samples are mutated is 0.

Phantasy [73]

Given:

Angelica reads 15 pages of a book each day.

In 10 days, she reads 200 pages.

Assume the relationship is linear.

To find:

The rate of change and initial value.

Solution:

The slope intercept form of a linear function is:

y=mx+b            ...(i)

Where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

Angelica reads 15 pages of a book each day. So, the rate of change is 15 pages per day and m=15.

In 10 days, she reads 200 pages. It means the linear relation passes through the point (10,200).

Putting x=10,y=200,m=15 in (i), we get

200=15(10)+b

200=150+b

200-150=b

50=b

So, the y-intercept is 50. It means the initial number of pages angelica already read is 50.

Therefore, the rate of change is 15, it means Angelica reads 15 pages per day. The y-intercept is 50, it means the initial number of pages angelica already read is 50.

815 gallons of gas cost $32. How many gallons of gas can Mike buy for
$20?
jenyasd209 [6]

Answer:

509 gallons as 815 gallons divided by 32 = 25.468 and we multiply by 20 to get 509.375 where we round down at 509 to find full gallon, anything less (via decimal) is not a full gallon.

A parking lot has 63 empty space. If the ratio of empty space to taken spaces is 7:4, how many spaces are there total
sweet [91]

First, find how many actual empty spaces there are to the ratio of empty spaces. (In other words, divide 63 by 7)

63 ÷ 7 = 9

Now that we know for that there are 9 sets of 7 in 63, multiply 4 by 9 to find the amount of taken parking spaces.

4 × 9 = 36

The unsimplified ratio of empty spaces to take spaces is 63:36. Add these two numbers together to find the total number of spaces.

63 + 36 = 99

Answer:

There are 99 total parking spaces.

I hope this helps :)
