Answer:

Olive's age = 32

Lisbeth's age = 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Declaration

Let Eisbeths present age = x

Let Olive's age = y

Equations

(x - 2) = 1/5 (y - 2)

x + 4 = 1/3(Y + 4)

Solution

1st equation

(x - 2) = 1/5 (y - 2)                 Multiply both sides by 5

5(x - 2) = y - 2                       Remove the brackets

5x - 10 = y - 2                       Add 10 to both sides

5x -10+10 = y - 2+10            Combine

5x = y + 8                            Subtract 8 from both sides

5x - 8 = y + 8 - 8                 Combine

5x - 8 = y

2nd Equation

x + 4 = 1/3(y + 4)                 Multiply both sides by 3

3(x + 4) = y + 4                   Remove the brackets

3x + 12 = y + 4                     Subtract 3 from both sides

3x + 12 - 4 = y + 4 - 4          Combine

3x + 8 = y

Note Since y is the same in both equations, the left side of each can be thought of as equal to each other.

3x + 8  = 5x - 8                    Add 8  to both sides

3x + 8 + 8 = 5x - 8 + 8        Combine

3x + 16 = 5x                         Subtract 3x from both sides

3x - 3x + 16 = 5x - 3x           Combine

16 = 2x                                  Divide by 2

16/2 = 2x/2

8  = x

y = 3x + 8

y = 32

Tju [1.3M]

ANSWER

Find out the what is the range of ink cartridges he can buy and still have enough money left over for the reams of paper.

To proof

let us assume that the number of the ink cartridges buy be x.

As given

Carlos monthly office supply budget is $250.

He needs to buy ink cartridges which cost $40 a piece.

He will need to save at least $50 of his budget for reams of paper.

than the inequality is written in the form

250 - 40 x \leq 50 \\ 40x = 200 \\ x\leq \frac{200}{40}

x ≤ 5

the range of the ink cartridges he can buy be 0 ≤ x ≤ 5 when he saves

at least $50 of his budget for reams of paper.

Hence proved

WXYZ is an isosceles trapezoid with legs WX and YZ and a base XY. If the length of WX is 6x+5, the length of XY is 10x+4 and the
pav-90 [236]
WX and ZY make up the legs, as illustrated in the diagram.
Since it is an isosceles trapezoid, the legs are congruent; that means
6x + 5 = 8x - 3
When solving this equation, we do not want a variable on both sides. We will cancel the 6x to avoid negatives:
6x + 5 - 6x = 8x - 3 - 6x
5 = 8x - 3 - 6x
Combine like terms:
5 = 2x - 3
Cancel the 3 by adding:
5 + 3 = 2x - 3 + 3
8 = 2x
Cancel the 2 by dividing:
8/2 = 2x/2
4 = x
