list all the elements.

you need to find a number to multiply both sides to get the same result.

example: I said on the left side: 5×O2 which is 10. on the right side I do the same to get 10.

In order to do this I said: 4×H2O which is 8 H2,and 4 O.

I then said 3×CO2 which gives 3 C and 6 O2. 6+4=10.

Now Oxygen(O) is balanced. Do the same for the rest of the elements.

Let's use

  • C3H8+O2—»H2O+CO2

Calculate atoms on both sides

On reactant side

  • C=3
  • H=8
  • O=2

On product

  • H=2
  • O=3
  • C=1

Now balance both sides by making atoms equal

The balanced one is

  • C3H8+5O2—»3H_2O+4CO_2
