Benzene, C6H6, reacts with nitric acid, HNO3. Two products are formed, one of which is water. The second product has a molar mas

s of 213 grams. The second product is composed of 33.8% carbon, 1.42% hydrogen, 19.7% nitrogen, and 45.1% oxygen. Write a balanced chemical equation for this reaction:

Answer:

C₆H₆ + 3HNO₃ →  C₆H₃N₃O₆  +  3H₂O

Explanation:

The reaction is:

Benzene + Nitric acid → Water + ?

Let's determine the ? compound

Molar mass 213 g/mol

33.8g of C in 100 g of compound |

1.42 g of H in 100g of compound  | _  Percent composition

19.7 g of N in 100g of compound  |

45.1 g of O in 100g of compound  |

We propose these rule of three:

In 100 g of compound we have 33.8 g C, 1.42 g H, 19.7g N and 45.1g O

Therefore in 213g of compound we must have:

(213 .  33.8) / 100 = 72 g of C

(213 .  1.42) / 100 = 3 g of H

(213 .  19.7) / 100 = 42 g of N

(213 .  45.1) / 100 = 96 g of O

Now, we convert the mass to moles:

72 g of C . 1 mol / 12g = 6 C

3 g of H . 1 mol / 1g = 3 H

42 g of N . 1 mol / 14 g = 3 N

96 g of O . 1 mol / 16 g = 6 O

Molecular formula is C₆H₃N₃O₆. So the balanced reaction will be:

C₆H₆  +  3HNO₃ →  C₆H₃N₃O₆  +  3H₂O

Give the number of lone pairs around the central atom and the molecular geometry of XeF4.A)0 lone pairs, tetrahedralB)1 lone pai
vovangra [49]

Answer: 2 lone pairs, square planar

Explanation:

Using the VSEPR ( Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion)Theory

To calculate the number of lone pairs electron can be done using the formula;

Number of electrons = ½ (V+N-C+A)

V mean valency of the central atom

N means number of monovalent bonding atoms

C means charge on cation

A means charges on anion

Therefore, to calculate the number of lone pair electron C=A=0;

Number of electrons = ½ (8+4) = 12/2 = 6

Number of bonding pair = 4

Number of lone pairs of electron = 6-4 = 2

The hybridrization of the compound is sp3d2 because the number of electrons around the central atom is 6.

The geometry of the compound is square planar and this is because of the repulsion between the bonding pair of electrons and lone pair of electrons which causes the lone pair of electrons to lie in a perpendicular plane in order to acquire stability.

How many electrons in an atom can have each of the following quantum number or sublevel designations?
lutik1710 [3]

Answer: a:6 electrons, b:10electrons, c: 2electrons

Explanation:

1.Principle quantum number(n)

n is the number of shell, it is a positive integer. The maximum number of electrons in a shell is 2(n2)

2.Azimuthal quantum number(l)

l is the number of subshell in the principal shell

The name of subshell are s, p, d, f

The number of nodes in each subshell is

s is l=0, p is l=1, d is l=2, f is l=3.

Each shell can have 2 x l + 1 sublevels, and each sublevel can accommodate maximum of 2 electrons and have two electrons.

A. n=2, l=1 then 2 x 1 + 1= 3 subshell, 3*2= 6 electrons in the p subshell

b. 3d, d is l = 2 then 2 x 2 + 1 = 5 sublevels, 5*2=10 electrons in the d subshell

c. 4s, s is l=0 then 2 x 0 + 1 = 1 sublevel, 1*2=2 electrons in the s subshell.
