The discovery of microRNAs (miRNAs) is one of the major scientific breakthroughs in recent years and has revolutionized the way we look at gene regulation.

What is MicroRNAs ?

microRNA is the name of a family of molecules that helps cells control the kinds and amounts of proteins they make

 • That is, cells use microRNA to help control gene expression. Molecules of microRNA are found in cells and in the bloodstream.

 • The miRNA functions as a guide by base-pairing with target mRNA to negatively regulate its expression.

Calculate amount of solid (in grams) required to produce 250ml of a 1 in 10 solution.
9966 [12]

The amount of solid in grams required to produce 250ml of a 1 in 10 solution is 12.5 g

Preparation of solutions

Solutions are prepared when substances known as solutes are dissolved in another substance known as solvent.

In preparing solutions, the amount of solute required, concentration and volume of solution to be prepared is necessary.

 • Amount is the quantity of solute in grams or moles needed to be dissolved in a given solvent in order to prepare a solution of known concentration.
 • Amount in moles = mass/molar mass of solute
 • Concentration of a solution is the amount of solute per volume of solution
 • The volume of solution is measured in litres of millilitres

For example, to prepare a 250 mL of a 1 in 10 solution.

A 1 in 10 parts solution consists of 1 part stock solution and 9 parts solvent.

Concentration of the solution = 10%

% weight/volume = weight of solute/volume of mL * 100

Let the weight of solute = x

5% = x/250 * 100

x = 5 * 250/100

x = 12.5 g

Therefore, amount of solid in grams required to produce 250ml of a 1 in 10 solution is 12.5 g
