The answer is x < 1.

Bring the constant to the other side.

  • 4x - 6 < 2
  • 4x < 4

Divide by 4 on both sides.

  • 4x ÷ 4 < 4 ÷ 4
  • x < 1

\Large\texttt{Answer}

\overline{\qquad\qquad\qquad\qquad\qquad\qquad\qquad\quad\space\space\qquad\qquad\qquad}}

\Large\texttt{Process}

\rm{4x-6 < -2}

Do you remember that we need to get x by itself to find its value?

We should do <u>this:</u>

<u />

<em>⇨ Add 6 to both sides</em>

<em />

<em />\rm{4x-6+6 < -2+6}

On the left hand side (lhs), the 6s add up to zero; on the right hand side (rhs), the -2 and 6 result in 4. Hence

\rm{4x < 4}

Now divide both sides by 4

\rm{\cfrac{4x}{4} < \cfrac{4}{4}}

Simplifying fractions gives us

\rm{x < 1}

* what this means is: numbers less than 1 will make the statement true

\Large\texttt{Verification}

Substitute 1 into the original inequality \boxed{4x-6 < -2}

\rm{4(1)-6 < -2}

\rm{4-6 < -2}

Do the arithmetic

\rm{-2 < -2}

Hope that helped
