Based on size and shape, the force of attraction between solid particles is greatest whereas the force of attraction between gas particles is least.

<h3>Effect of size and shape on  forces of attraction between particles</h3>

Particles of matter have force acting between them known as force of attraction.

The strength of this force of attraction varies from one kind of matter to another.

Matter exists in three states;

  • solid
  • liquid, and
  • gas

Solids particles have definite shape, fixed volumes, propensity to keep up with their shape and are unbending.

Strength of force acting between particles of solid is so strong which helps solid to have fixed volume and rigid shape.

liquid particles have no fixed volume but have a fixed volume as they take the shape of the vessel in which they are filled.

Gas particles move randomly at very high speed due to the maximum free space between the particles and minimum force of attraction between them.

Thus, based on size and shape, the force of attraction between solid particles is greatest whereas the force of attraction between gas particles is least.

Determine the volume (mL) of 15.0 M sulfuric acid needed to react with 45.0 g of
myrzilka [38]

Answer:

167 mL.

Explanation:

We'll begin by calculating the number of moles in 45 g of aluminum (Al). This can be obtained as follow:

Mass of Al = 45 g

Molar mass of Al = 27 g/mol

Mole of Al =?

Mole = mass /Molar mass

Mole of Al = 45/27

Mole of Al = 1.67 moles

Next, the balanced equation for the reaction. This is given below:

2Al + 3H2SO4 → Al2(SO4)3 + 3H2

From the balanced equation above,

2 moles of Al reacted with 3 moles of H2SO4.

Next, we shall determine the number of mole of H2SO4 needed to react with 45 g (i.e 1.67 moles) of Al. This can be obtained as:

From the balanced equation above,

2 moles of Al reacted with 3 moles of H2SO4.

Therefore, 1.67 moles of Al will react with = (1.67 × 3)/2 = 2.505 moles of H2SO4.

Thus 2.505 moles of H2SO4 is needed for the reaction.

Next, we shall determine the volume of H2SO4 needed for the reaction. This can be obtained as follow:

Molarity of H2SO4 = 15.0 M

Mole of H2SO4 = 2.505 moles

Volume =?

Molarity = mole /Volume

15 = 2.505 / volume

Cross multiply

15 × volume = 2.505

Divide both side by 15

Volume = 2.505/15

Volume = 0.167 L

Finally, we shall convert 0.167 L to mL. This can be obtained as follow:

1 L = 1000 mL

Therefore,

0.167 L = 0.167 L × 1000 mL / 1 L

0.167 L = 167 mL

Thus, 0.167 L is equivalent to 167 mL.

Therefore, 167 mL H2SO4 is needed for the reaction.

Choose the molecule or compound that exhibits dipole-dipole forces as its strongest intermolecular force. a) BCl3 b) N2 c) H2 d)
Nana76 [90]

Answer:

SO₂

Explanation:

The dipole-dipole force is not only determined by the electron density around each atoms in the molecule (dependent of electronegativity difference), but also how the atoms in the molecules are arranged. In general, the more symmetric a molecule is, the less dipole force it exerts as each dipole moments cancels each other out.

Now let's examine each answer

  • b and c, N₂ and H₂ are composed of same type of atoms, therefore, no dipole moment occurs, and no dipole-dipole forces are exerted
  • a and e, BCl₃ and CBr₄ are composed of atoms with different electronegativity, but are symmetric. With BCl₃ having trigonal planar structure and CBr₄ has tetragonal structure, each B-Cl and C- Br bond cancels out each other dipole moment, and thus, no dipole moments were generated.
  • d, SO₂ structure is not linear, but is a little bent, this allows net dipole moment to occurs in this molecule as dipole moment from each S=O bond do not cancels each other out

What is the volume, to the nearest whole cubic inch, of a cylinder with a height of 10 inches and a radius of 8 inches? Use Pi =
omeli [17]

Answer:

v=2010 inches^3

Explanation:

The volume of a cylinder can be found using:

v=\pi r^2h

We know the height is 10, the radius is 8, and we can substitute 3.14 in for pi

v=3.14(8^2)(10)

Solve the exponent first

v=3.14(64)(10)

v=3.14(640)

v=2009.6

To the nearest whole number:

v=2010 inches^3

a 1.00-l solution contains 2.50×10-4 m cu(no3)2 and 1.20×10-3 m ethylenediamine (en). the kf for cu(en)22 is 1.00 × 1020. chegg
Debora [2.8K]

The concentration of copper in the solution is

5.1 \times 10^{18}  \: M.

The volume of the solution = 1.00 L

Moles \: of \:Cu(NO_{3}) _{2} = 2.50 \times 10 {}^{ - 4}

Moles \:  of  \: Ethylenediamine = 1.20 \times 10.3

k _{f} = 1.00 \times 10^{20}

Overall balanced equation of reaction is,

Cu^{2 + }(aq)  \:  + 2en \: (aq)→ Cu(en) ^{2 + }_{2}(aq)

Moles \: of \:Cu(NO_{3}) _{2} =0.00025 \: mol

Mole ratio for,

Moles \: of\:Cu(NO_{3}) _{2}: en

2: 1

Moles \: of \: en = 0.000250 \times 2

= 0.00050 \: moles

Remained moles of en are= (0.00120-0.000500)

= 0.000700 \: moles

The concentration of copper in the solution is,

k_{f} =  \frac{Cu(en)^{2 + }_{2}  }{Cu^{2+}en^{2}  }

1.00 \times 10 ^{20} =  \frac{0.000250}{(Cu )^{2 +}  \times (0.000700)^{2 + } }

=  5.1 \times 10^{18}  \: M.

Therefore, the concentration of copper in the solution is

5.1 \times 10^{18}  \: M.
