Theophilus Hunter Holmes was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War's Eastern and Trans-Mississippi theaters as an infantry commander with the Confederate States Army.
He died on June 21, 1880. He had previously distinguished himself as a US Army officer during the Seminole and Mexican-American Wars. He served as commander of the Trans-Mississippi Department and was a friend and protege of Confederate States President Jefferson Davis.
However, he was unsuccessful in defending the Confederacy's control over the Mississippi River.
