In his article, "Does it pay to bluff in Business?", Norman Bowie says the bluffing and its related phenomena undermine the spirit of cooperation that is very important for the success of a business.

Overall Norman Bowie says that bluffing in business cannot be regarded as an ethical practice. Although, he says, bluffing is used a lot in business practices but it does more harm than good. According to him, if one keeps on lying repetitively, it may lead to distrust among the businesses, hindering any further interaction.

He also supports his idea by giving the example of bluffing with workers through collective bargaining done by the management, which could result in lack of faith among the workers, and an increase in demand from their side.
