Answer:

  • <u>"Jimmy has an increased risk of high cholesterol and high blood pressure."</u>
  • <u>"Jimmy has an increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes."</u>

<u><em></em></u>

Explanation:

To answer this question, we just need to know the following:

  • <em>What's the average amount of body fat one should have?</em>

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and WebMD, men aged 20 to 39 should have 8%-19% body fat, and women of the same age group should have 21%-32% body fat. UCSDB ScienceLine states, "Before adolescence average body fat is 18% in both boys and girls. However, after age 13 boys drop 2-3% in body fat and girls gain 8-10% in body fat," (due to puberty). We know that Jimmy is a high school student, and high schoolers are typically 14-18. Thus, he should be nowhere near 33% of body fat to have the adequate amount, nor is he underweight.

With this information, we can rule out, "Jimmy is likely underweight and may be malnourished," and, "Jimmy has a healthy body composition and has adequate fat stores."

  • <em>What increases the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure? Does body fat have to do with it?</em>

According to The Obesity Action Coalition, "Being 'overweight' (BMI of 25-29.9), or affected by obesity (BMI of 30-39.9) or severe obesity (BMI of 40 or greater), <u>greatly increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.</u>"

According to WebMD, "So being overweight or obese can raise your chances of high triglycerides and, in turn, <u>high cholesterol</u>..."

According to Cleveland Clinic, "How are obesity and heart disease related? Obesity affects more than 40% of the U.S. population. The excess fat in obesity was originally thought to be harmless (benign). However, we now know that excess fat causes chemical changes in your blood that <u>increase your heart disease risk.</u>"

According to WebMD, "As your body weight increases, your blood pressure can rise. In fact, being overweight can make you <u>more likely to develop high blood pressure</u> than if you are at your desirable weight."

  • Note: "Body fat percentage distinguishes fat from muscle and calculates the percentage of body fat in the body. While BMI is a rough estimate of body fat, body fat percentage is a more accurate number. BMI, but not overfat" (Goshen Health).

To conclude, the most logical answers would be, "Jimmy has an increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes," and,"Jimmy has an increased risk of high cholesterol and high blood pressure."

Hope that helps! <3

1. Why is it difficult to define self-esteem? 2. Is success in life a cause of high self-esteem, an effect of high self-esteem,
Zepler [3.9K]

Hello! Thank you for your question.

1. Self-esteem is hard to describe because there really is no one way to describe it. You could ask two totally different people to describe it for you and they will say two completely different things. There is more then one way to discribe self-esteem.

2. You can be sucessful whether or not you have a high self-esteem or a low self-esteem, it really just depends on how you control it. Yes, having a high self-esteem will help when it comes to being sucessful.

3. Parents can help their child with having a good social self-esteem by being open and honest with their child. If a parent tells there child that they are worthless, ugly, a mistake, etc. it will inturn make that child have a low self-esteem. Since the world is already harsh, it just makes the child have an even lower self-esteem.

4. Parents can help their child have a good academic self-esteem by being helpful with school, by understanding that they aren't alwasy going to make great grades. Parents can also help their child have a good academic self-esteem by never telling them they are stupid, they don't know what they are doing, or by yelling at them and making them feel bad about a bad grade.

5. This is more of a question that you need to answer, you and I may have two different opinions. For example, I don't think that all males/boys are going to grow up to be active and aggressive. I also don't think that all women/girls will grow up to be more calmer and more agreeable. Some teenage girls are definite and don't listen. Some teenage boys, are more quiet and calmer then other boys. Not all boys are going to grow up playing sports and not all girls are going to grow up loving make-up or loving baby dolls. Not every boy, girl, man, women out there is going to be the same and like the exact same thing. For example, not every doctor is a female some are males, not every factory worker is a male some are female, not every cashier or grocery store worker is a women some are male. Also, not every girl is going to grow up wanting to wear pretty dresses some might prefer a pair of jeans and a band t-shirts (I know I do). Some boys might not want to grow up wearing jeans and a nice Holister shirt some might want to were black jeans and a band t-shirt. Not everyone is the same, we may be rasied to wear dresses and jeans and a nice Holister shirt, but not everyone wants to wear that.

I hope this helped you! Anymore questions? Just ask.
