Capturing packets is a networking term for intercepting a data packet that is crossing a specific point in a data network. It is then stored and analyzed for further process.

Man in the middle attack or machine in the middle attack is a type of cyber attack where the attacker intervenes secretly between two parties communicating with each other and alters the communication.

The parties will have no idea about the intervention,so they believe that they are communicating directly. The attack given above is an example of the same.
