Some patient safety leaders believe the definition of harm should be broader than the definition in the ihi global trigger tool because health care systems should work to prevent more types of harm than the current definition includes.

The IHI Global Trigger Tool for Measuring Adverse Events provides an easy-to-use method for accurately identifying adverse events (harm) and measuring the rate of adverse events over time. Tracking adverse events over time is a useful way to tell if changes being made are improving the safety of the care processes. The Trigger Tool methodology is a retrospective review of a random sample of inpatient hospital records using “triggers” (or clues) to identify possible adverse events. Many hospitals have used this tool to identify adverse events, to assess the level of harm from  each adverse event, and to determine whether adverse events are reduced over time as a result  of improvement efforts. It is important to note, however, that the IHI Global Trigger Tool is not meant to identify every single adverse event in an inpatient record. The methodology, recommended time limit for review, and random selection of records are designed to produce a sampling approach that is sufficient to determine harm rates and observe improvement over time.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) formed the Idealized Design of the Medication System (IDMS) Group in May 2000. This group of 30 physicians, pharmacists, nurses, statisticians, and other professionals established an aim to design a medication system that is safer by a factor of 10 and more cost effective than systems currently in use. The Trigger Tool for Measuring Adverse Drug Events was initially developed by this group to assess progress on this safety goal and provided the basis for development of subsequent Trigger Tools.

This white paper is designed to provide comprehensive information on the development and methodology of the IHI Global Trigger Tool, with step-by-step instructions for using the tool to measure adverse events in a hospital.

You have been asked to debate the question of whether globalization improves the lives of people in developed and developing nat
Finger [1]

Answer:

Explanation:

Choosing Your Role

Which position do you want to take in the debate?

YOU CHOSE OPTION 1

The globalization supporter, the President of Global Operations for Holden-Evan Corporation, a multinational corporation.

you chose the role of the globalization supporter, asserting that globalization improves the lives of people in developing and the developed world.

Opening Statement

The moderator introduces you and asks you to make an opening statement, to explain how globalization has been beneficial for people in both developed and developing countries. Your goal is to select a position that you can support and defend.

As a supporter of globalization, which opening statement is best?

YOU CHOSE OPTION 2

Globalization brings the world closer together, improves organizational efficiency, and has lifted millions out of poverty.

For your opening argument, you said that globalization brings the world closer together, improves organizational efficiency, and has lifted millions out of poverty. This was the best opening statement because it detailed the benefits of globalization for developing as well as developed countries.

Supporting Your Statement

The moderator intervenes: “That’s a good point.

But, can you add something that substantiates your claim?

”What is the best response?

YOU CHOSE OPTION 3

Developing countries that have embraced globalization have seen dramatic increases in per capita GDP and life expectancy. Developed countries benefit by getting access to the best products and services that the world has to offer.

You chose to support your opening statement by claiming that the rate at which the gross domestic product (GDP) increases annually has remained constant across all countries since the advent of globalization. This was a poor choice since it is factually incorrect. Also, even if this were true, it would not support your case. You chose to support your opening statement by referring to the rise of per capita GDP and life expectancy in developing countries and the benefits that developed countries gain access to. This was the best choice as it supports all the claims you made in your opening statement.

Critic's Response

The critic speaks:

“My primary concern about globalization is regarding the income inequality that it has created. In developing countries, the rich, who are profiting most from globalization, are becoming even richer, while the poor get poorer. In developed countries, it is only the economic elite who becoming richer, while the common citizen loses out.”

What was the west african proverb that president theodore roosevelt was fond of?
Grace [21]

Speak softly and carry a big stick was the west african proverb that president theodore roosevelt was fond of.

Theodore Roosevelt popularized and gave the phrase "Big Stick" to a policy that proclaimed American dominance at a time when doing so was seen as morally necessary.

When he argued in front of the US Congress for increased naval readiness to support the country's diplomatic goals, Roosevelt used the phrase for the first time in a notable public context.

Earlier, when he was still the governor of New York, Roosevelt mentioned in a letter to a friend how much he liked the West African saying, "Speak quietly and carry a strong stick; you will go far."

Later on, Roosevelt used the phrase to describe his interactions with domestic political figures as well as his stance on topics like monopoly regulation and labor union demands.
