The nurse should inform about the serum creatinine level of 2.8 mg/dL.

What is pulmonary embolism?

A pulmonary embolism is when a thrombus blocks a pulmonary artery. The procedure that is most usually used to confirm a pulmonary embolism (PE) is a spiral CT scan, also known as CT angiography. To see the pulmonary vasculature, a contrast medium (dye) injection must be given intravenously. In patients with compromised renal function, the dye should be used with caution because it has the potential to cause renal failure.

The client is at risk for dye-induced renal failure since the creatinine level is much over normal (a normal creatinine level ranges from 0.8 to 1.2 mg/dL). The nurse should promptly inform the healthcare professional of this test result. It is normal for the D-dimer level to be increased. Troponin and PaO2 levels are within acceptable ranges.
