Francisco vasquez de Coronado found neither gold nor silver on his expeditions into what is today Mexico and the American southwest. He found grand Canyon and Colorado river.

Between 1540 and 1542, Francisco Vázquez de Coronado y Luján led a large expedition from what is now Mexico to present-day Kansas through parts of the southwestern United States.

They expected to pay off their investments and become wealthy from gold and jewels in Cibola, but when they arrived in July 1540, they discovered no wealth. Coronado dispatched side parties to discover the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River's mouth.

His expedition marked the first European sightings Grand Canyon and the Colorado River.
