Victor is using his Geiger-counter to record the amount of radiation that is leaking into the soil from a nearby nuclear disposa

l site. This radiation decreases by the square of the distance from the source. If he starts measurements 100 m from the disposal site how close will he need to stand if he hopes to measure soil with 4 times the radiation?

If Victor starts measurements 100 m from the disposal site, he needs to stand 50 m from the source if he hopes to measure soil with 4 times the radiation.

I = 1 / r²

I = Intensity

r = Distance

At a distance of 100 m from the source,

I = 1 / 100²

I = 1 / 10000

I = 10^{-4} J / m² s

Four times this radiation will have an intensity of,

I = 4 * 10^{-4} J / m² s

4 * 10^{-4} = 1 / d²

d² = 1 / 4 * 10^{-4}

d² = 0.25 * 10^{4}

d = √ 25 * 10²

d = 5 * 10

d = 50 m

Therefore, he needs to stand 50 m from the source

What are some of the phenotypic plant traits that scientists are investigating? Why do you think these traits were chosen?
vodomira [7]

The term phenotype in a more specific context to describe the collective expression of the genotype in conjunction with the environment on a plant's observable characteristics.

Explanation:

 • Phenotype, any of the measurable features of an organism arising from its genotype association (total genetic inheritance) with the environment. Behaviour, biochemical properties, colour, form, and scale are examples of measurable characteristics.
 • An allele is another type of one gene. A phenotype triggered by the expression of a gene or group of genes is the external manifestation of a human trait.
 • A trait is an attribute unique to an organism. The genotype's external expression is called the phénotype.

First we'll calculate the energy it posesses

G.P.E = mgh = 0.2 * 10 * 100 = 200 J

Now we'll calculate the temperature rise

Q = m * c * (t2 - t1)
Q/(m * c) = t2-t1
t2 = Q/(m * c) + t1 = 200/(0.2 * 400) + 0 = 2.5 C
