Right to Equality is being refused here. The Constitution of India has granted the right to equality to all citizens.
The Hindu caste system in India has its roots deep seated since ancient times. In India Dalit (Shudras) are considered lowest in the caste hierarchy. Since a long time Upper caste such as brahamans and kshatriyas have looked down upon them with loathing eyes and abhorrence.
With the passage of time things have changed in social and cultural facet. But one katzenjammer remained constant .i.e. resentment and distaste for Dalits. As qouted by Mahatma Gandhi , "For a country to rise, We must rise together".
Therefore, the Government of India has taken several measures at all levels of governance to discourage such unpalatable discrimination and improve the overall conditions of Dalits in the Indian society.
Such measures are listed as below:
1. They have been provided Reservation in education and service sector to improve their economic status in the society.
2. They have been given Special recognition in parliament of India in both the houses.
3. The Scheduled Caste And The Scheduled Tribe (Prevention Of Atrocities) Act, 1989 has been created to punish and penalise the ones who commit such distatsteful acts of discrimination.
