What is the solution to the equation below? √x+3 = x-3

Mathematics
1 answer:

3 0

Answer:

B) x = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

first, square both sides: x + 3 = x^2 - 6x + 9 (using the (a+b)^2 identity)

second, move the x + 3 to the right side to get a quadratic that equals 0: x^2 - 7x + 6 = 0

solve & factor the quadratic: (x - 6) (x - 1), so the solutions are x = 6 and x = 1

x = 1 isn't an answer, so the answer is b) x = 6

hope this helps! <3

Convert R=(12)/4+8sin the theta to rectangular form
kompoz [17]
r=\dfrac{12}{4+8\sin\theta}=\dfrac3{1+2\sin\theta}

Let y=2\sin\theta, and recall that in polar coordinates, r=\sqrt{x^2+y^2}. This means you have

\sqrt{x^2+y^2}=\dfrac3{1+y}

You can stop there, or try to find something that looks somewhat nicer.

x^2+y^2=\dfrac9{(1+y)^2}

What are the explicit equation and domain for a geometric sequence with a first term of 2 and a second term of −8?
Alexxx [7]
The common ratio in a geometric sequence is the ratio between 2 consecutive terms:

-8/2=-4,

then the sequence is  2, -8, 32, -128, -512, 2048, ...

let a_n be the nth term of the sequence, then

a_1= 2
a_2=2(-4)
a_3=2(-4)(-4)=2(-4)^{2}
a_4=2(-4)(-4)(-4)=2(-4)^{3}
.
.
.
so clearly a_n=2(-4)^{n-1}

and, clearly n are integers >0, since we have a 1st term, a second term and so on... of a sequence (we do not have a "zero'th term"!

what is the slope intercept form of the linear equation with a graph that passes through (-2,2) and is perpendicular to the grap
qwelly [4]

Hey there!!

Steps to get into equation which is perpendicular:

  • Change the slope
  1. The slope of a perpendicular line is always negative reciprocal.
  • Take the point and get that into point-slope form.
  1. y - y = m ( x - x )
  • Convert this equation into slope-intercept form.

'm' is the slope.

We have the slope as 1/3

The perpendicular slope would be -3.

Point slope:

The point = (-2,2)

y - 2 = -3( x - (-2) )

y - 2 = -3(x+2)

y - 2 = -3x -6

Adding 2 on both sides:

y = -3x - 4

<em>Hence, the equation would be : </em>

<u><em>y = -3x - 4 </em></u>

Hope it helps!
