Part a: The value of y is 11 for x = 2.

Part b: The graph for the function y = x² + 4x -1 is drawn.

Part c: Range; (-∞,-3.75]∪[-0.25,∞)

Part d: The function is  y =  -5 - (x + 2)².

Part e: The approximate value of √3  is 1.732.

<h3>What is defined as the term function?</h3>
  • A function is an expression, rule, or law in mathematics that defines a relationship between one dependent variable (a independent variable) and also one more variable (the dependent variable).
  • Functions are common in mathematics and are required for the formulation of actual relationships with in sciences.

For the given function;

y = x² + 4x -1, the values of y for the corresponding x is given in tables shown.

Part a: value of y when x = 2.

Put x = 2 in the function;

y = x² + 4x -1

y = 2² + 4×2 -1

y = 11

The value of y is 11 for x = 2.

Part b: The graph for the function y = x² + 4x -1 is drawn using the scale of 10 small divisions as 1 unit along x and y axis.

Part c: Range of value of x for which y ≥ -2.

Locate the point of x from the graph for which the value of y  y ≥ -2.

Range; (-∞,-3.75]∪[-0.25,∞)

Part d: The function in the form of y = k - (x - h)², where k and h are the vertex.

The vertex from the graph is found as (-2, -5) (h, k)

Putt in the equation;

y = k - (x - h)²

y = -5 - (x - (-2))²

y =  -5 - (x + 2)²

Part e: 2 - √3 is the root of the equation 0 = x² + 4x -1.

It  2 - √3 is the root of the equation, then by putting this value at x the equation becomes zero.

The approximate value of √3  is 1.732 which is found by long division method.

A skier is trying to decide whether or not to buy a season ski pass. a daily pass is $75. A season ski pass is $350. The skier w
pishuonlain [190]
Since the skier has to rent skis for 30 dollars per day with both passes, we can ignore it while solving the question.

A season pass is 350, while a daily pass is 75.

\frac{350}{75} = \frac{25\times 14}{25\times 3} = \frac{14}{3} = 4 \frac{2}{3}

So a seasonal pass is equivalent to having 4.6667 daily passes. And you can't buy 0.6667 of a pass.

So, if you went at least 5 days with a seasonal pass, then the seasonal pass would be less expensive than a daily pass.

Suppose that in a casino game the payout is a random variable X . If X is positive, you gain money, if negative, you lose.
Vanyuwa [196]

Answer:

the conditional probability that X = 1 , X = 2 and X = 3 is  0.7333 (73.33%) , 0.25 (25%) and 0.0167 (1.67%) respectively

Step-by-step explanation:

a player wins money when i>0 then defining event W= gain money , then

P(W) = p(i>0) = p(1)+p(2)+p(3)

then the conditional probability can be calculated through the theorem of Bayes

P(X=1/W)= P(X=1 ∩ W)/P(W)

where

P(X=1 ∩ W)= probability that the payout is 1 and earns money

P(X=1 / W)= probability that the payout is 1 given money was earned

then

P(X=1/W)= P(X=1 ∩ W)/P(W) = P(X=1) / P(W) = p(1) /[p(1)+p(2)+p(3)] = 11/40 /(11/40+3/32+1/160 ) = 0.7333 (73.33%)

similarly

P(X=2/W)=p(2) /[p(1)+p(2)+p(3)] = 3/32 /(11/40+3/32+1/160 ) = 0.25 (25%)

P(X=3/W)=p(2) /[p(1)+p(2)+p(3)] = 1/160 /(11/40+3/32+1/160 ) = 0.0167 (1.67%)
