A rectangular tank, 25 cm long and 25 cm wide is filled with water to a depth of 10 cm. When a metal cube of edge 10 cm is place

d on the tank, the water level rises. Find the height of the new water level.

The problem involves the volume of the water of the rectangular tank, so first we must find the volume of our water. For the volume we have;

\begin{gathered} \text{Volume = Lenght x Width x Height} \\ V_{water}_{}_{}\text{ = 25 x 25 x 10} \\ V_{water}=6250cm^3 \end{gathered}

Therefore our tank has an initial volume of 6250 cm³, but if you drop a cube with a side measuring 10 cm. the volume of the water in our tank increases. Giving us the expression;

\begin{gathered} \text{Volume Combined = Volume of Water + Volume of Cube} \\ V_{comb}=V_{water}+V_{cube} \end{gathered}

Since we already have the volume of the water (which is 6250), we just need to find the volume of the cube using the same formula (<em>Volume = Lenght x Width x Height</em>);

\begin{gathered} V_{comb}=V_{water}+V_{cube} \\ V_{comb}=V_{water}+(Lenght_{cube})(Width_{cube})(Height_{cube})_{}_{}_{} \\ V_{comb}=V_{water}+10(10)(10) \\ V_{comb}=6250+1000 \\ V_{comb}=7250cm^3 \end{gathered}

Therefore our new volume when they are combined or when the cube is droped in the tank is 7250 cm³.

But we must remember since our tank would remain it's shape no matter how much water it holds it would always retain it's dimension of it's lenght and width (25x25), therefore it is possible to find the height of the new water level using this logic;

\begin{gathered} V_{comb}=(Length_{\tan k})(Width_{\tan k})(Height_{water}\text{)} \\ V_{comb}=(25)(25)(Height_{water})\text{ , with our }V_{comb}=7250 \\ 7250=625(Height_{water}) \\ \text{Height}_{water}=\frac{7250}{625} \\ \text{Height}_{water}=11.6\text{ cm} \end{gathered}

Therefore the height of the new water level is 11.6 cm.

Martin has 5/6 of a pizza Liam has four times as much pizza is Martin how much pizza does Liam have? (Put it in a fraction)
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

The pizza of martin is \dfrac{4}{5}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

Martin has \dfrac{5}{6} of pizza.

Liam has four time much pizza.

Let us consider pizza is x.

We need to calculate the how much pizza of martin

Using given data

Pizza of Martin =x\times\dfrac{5}{6}

Pizza of Liam = 4\times(\dfrac{5}{6}x)

The pizza of martin will be

Pizza\ of\ martin=\dfrac{\dfrac{20}{6}x}{\dfrac{20}{6}x+\dfrac{5}{6}x}

Pizza\ of\ martin =\dfrac{4}{5}

Hence, The pizza of martin is \dfrac{4}{5}

During a basketball game a player makes 12 of 18 free throws attempted write the ratio as fraction reduced to the lowest term
umka21 [38]
To make this a fraction, let's put \frac{12}{18} . We can divide both top and bottom by 6, leaving us with \frac{2}{3} . This is as far as we can reduce it, making it your answer. I hope this helps!

Ieda and Thanh both offer piano lessons. Ieda charges an initial fee of $8.50 and an hourly rate of $11.00. Thanh charges an ini
Trava [24]
The price for each instructor will be the same at 3 hours. How I determined this answer:

First off, you need to add the initial price and hourly price for each person together, so you already know how much it will cost for 1 hour, including the initial fee. Here's how you do it:

Ieda: $11.00 (hourly price) + $8.50 (initial fee) = $19.50 (for 1 hour)

Thanh: $10.50 (hourly price) + $10.00 (initial fee) = $20.50 (for 1 hour)

Now that you have the price for 1 hour including the initial fee, now you need to find the price for each hour after that. Here's how I did that:

I created a graph that looked like this:

Hours:       1                 2                  3
Ieda:      19.50          30.50         41.50
Thanh:   20.50          31.00         41.50

Here's how I figured out the price for each hour:

Ieda:

Hour 1 (including initial price):
            $11.00 + $8.50 = $19.50
Hour 2 (excluding initial price): Only add the hourly price after Hour 1!
            $19.50 + $11.00 = $30.50
Hour 3 (excluding initial price):
            $30.50 + $11.00 = $41.50

Thanh:

Hour 1 (including initial price):
            $10.50 + $10.00 = $20.50
Hour 2 (excluding initial price):
            $20.50 + $10.50 = $31.00
Hour 3 (excluding initial price):
            $31.00 + $10.50 = $41.50

So, looking at the graph, their prices are the same once each instruction reaches 3 hours. ($41.50)

I hope I was able to help you! :)
