Baldwin and LaFontaine established a Reform administration in 1842 for the newly formed Province of Canada, a union of Lower Canada (renamed Canada East; now Quebec) and Upper Canada, under the governor-generalship of Sir Charles Bagot (Canada West; now Ontario).

Why did Canada choose to practice responsible government?

The fundamental tenet of a responsible government is that it must have the support of Parliament in order to enact legislation and levy taxes. The colonists were given autonomy when this system was implemented in British North America. Over time, Canadians took charge of their own political affairs.

Why did LaFontaine and Baldwin work together?

Baldwin and LaFontaine shared the same opinion. They realized that achieving responsible government was the most crucial issue facing the Canadians. The two men held one another in the utmost regard. They remained close throughout the rest of their lives.

John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau would be most likely to support a?
Dmitry [639]

Answer: Locke and Rousseau would be most likely to support a change of government brought about by the people.

You might say this means they would support a revolution by the people against a bad government ... and to an extent that is true. We might want to be cautious, however, in ascribing too much revolutionary fervor to either of those two philosophers. Both of them were writing philosophy about how the people should be the sovereign power in a state -- that a government gets its power from the people and needs to serve the interests of the people. So in theory, they support the people's right to remove a government that has become tyrannical and replace it with a government that works properly on behalf of the people. But neither Locke nor Rousseau was personally advocating violent revolution. American colonists took up arms against Britain in response to their sort of philosophy (especially Locke's). And the bourgeoisie in France started the movement that became the French Revolution based on thoughts in both Lock and Rousseau. But as Enlightenment thinkers, both men ideally hoped to convince others by means of their arguments that a constitutional form of government was the best idea (Locke), or even that direct democracy was the right way for a state to operate (Rousseau).

Which best describes a consequence of Tolkien’s decision to set the hobbit in middle earth rather than a real place
dsp73

The setting allowed him to invent all different kinds of imaginary creatures, myths, and gods. Middle Earth gave him much liberty and he could create practically everything from scratch. A real place would limit him in many ways and the story would not look that magical.
