If the equation x² + 16x + c = 0 has only one real solution, the value of c is equal to 64.

Discriminant:

The quadratic formula includes the discriminant, which comes after the square root. The discriminant of a quadratic equation is important because it indicates the quantity and kind of solutions.

The formula for the Discriminant of a Quadratic Equation ax²+bx +c = 0 is given by

               Discriminant Δ = b² - 4ac

Here we have

x² + 16x + c = 0 equation has only one real solution

Compare given equation with ax²+ bx + c = 0

=> a = 1, and b = 16

As we know when an equation has only one real solution

then its Discriminant will be equal to zero

=> b² - 4ac = 0

By the above values,

=> 16² - 4(1)c = 0

=> 256 - 4c = 0

=> 4c = 256

=> c = 256/4

=> c = 64

Therefore,

If the equation x² + 16x + c = 0 has only one real solution, the value of c is equal to 64.

Sam travel 20 miles in three hours. Sam walked part of the distance at a speed of 4 mph. Sam rode his bicycle for the remaining
enot [183]

Answer:

Sam sokey 0.5 hours biking and 3.5 hours walking

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, we want to know the number of hours spent walking and biking

Mathematically; distance = speed * time

Let the number of hours spent walking be x and the number of hours spent biking be y

Mathematically;

x + y = 3 •••(i)

distance spent walking = 4 * x = 4x miles

distance spent biking = 12 * y = 12y miles

4x + 12y = 20

divide through by 2

2x + 6y = 10 ••••••(ii)

From i , x = 4-y

Substitute this into ii

2(4-y) + 6y = 10

8 - 2y + 6y = 10

8 + 4y = 10

4y = 10-8

4y = 2

y = 2/4 = 0.5 hours

The number of hours spent walking = 4-0.5 = 3.5 hours

The population of Linton is 12 times as great as the population of Elmore the combined population of both towns is 9,646 people
AleksandrR [38]
9,646/13 (12+1) = 742, 742*12=8,904

Population of Elmore = 8,904
Population of Lintone = 742
