Jamestown offered anchorage and a good defensive position. Warm climate and fertile soil allowed large plantations to prosper. Plymouth provided good anchorage and an excellent harbor.

Jamestown and Plymouth.

In 1607, 104 men who had sailed on the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery arrived in Virginia at a location they named Jamestown. The first established English colony in the New World was located here.
102 settlers from the Mayflower arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts, thirteen years later. These two colonies marked the beginning of English colonisation in North America.
A solid defensive posture and anchorage were available at Jamestown. Large plantations may thrive thanks to the warm environment and rich soil.
The Church of England's official religion, the Anglican, was practiced by the colonists at Jamestown.
The Puritan or Congregational Church was founded by the Pilgrims, who rejected the Church of England.
Plymouth had a great harbor and comfortable anchorage. Farm size was constrained by the cold environment and rocky, shallow soil. The economies of New England shifted to logging, shipbuilding, fishing, and trading.
