Donating the excess from a recent bonus to a local shelter is a part of moral charity. Roughly speaking this supererogatory acts are morally good or praise-worthy although not strictly required.

The key concept of utilitarianism  is the view that what makes an action morally right is the degree which it maximises happiness and minimises suffering.

When evaluating the consequences of an action, utilitarianism is both impartial and egalitarian. When considering the moral value of an action, utilitarianism would urge us to consider all parties involved both directly and indirectly.

This is why utilitarianism is often referred to as the philosophy of the 'greatest happiness of the greatest number'.
