A 60 w (120 v) night light is turned on for an average 12 h a day year round. part a what is the annual cost of electricity at a

The annual cost of electricity is $28.908 .

work done is equal to energy consumed

therefore total energy is calculated as power times the duration of operation .

W=P.t

where W= work done

            P=power

            t= time of operation

therefore,

total work done (W)=0.06×12×365 kw

=262.8 kw

so total annual electricity bill = 262.8×0.11

=$28.908

A 0.750 kg block is attached to a spring with spring constant 17.5 N/m. While the block is sitting at rest, a student hits it wi
Dmitriy789 [7]

Answer:

a

 A =  0.081 \  m

b

The value is  u =  0.2569 \  m/s

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

   The mass is  m  =  0.750 \ kg

   The spring constant is  k  =  17.5 \  N/m

    The instantaneous speed is  v  =  39.0 \  cm/s= 0.39 \  m/s

    The position consider is  x =  0.750A  meters from equilibrium point

Generally from the law of  energy conservation we have that

        The kinetic energy induced by the hammer  =  The energy stored in the spring

So

          \frac{1}{2} *  m * v^2  =  \frac{1}{2}  *  k  *  A^2

Here a is the amplitude of the subsequent oscillations

=>      A =  \sqrt{\frac{m *  v^ 2 }{ k} }

=>      A =  \sqrt{\frac{0.750 *  0.39 ^ 2 }{17.5} }

=>       A =  0.081 \  m

Generally from the law of  energy conservation we have that

The kinetic energy  by the hammer  =  The energy stored in the spring at the point considered   +   The kinetic energy at the considered point

             \frac{1}{2}  * m *  v^2 = \frac{1}{2}  * k x^2 + \frac{1}{2}  * m *  u^2

=>          \frac{1}{2}  * 0.750 *  0.39^2 = \frac{1}{2}  * 17.5* 0.750(0.081 )^2 + \frac{1}{2}  * 0.750 *  u^2

=>          u =  0.2569 \  m/s

a glass beaker has a mass of 50g. a liquid of density 1.8g/cm3 is poured into the beaker until it reaches the 200cm3 mark. calcu
xz_007 [3.2K]

<u>Answer:</u>

total mass = 410 g

<u>Explanation:</u>

density = 1.8 g/cm³

volume = 200 cm³

                              density = mass / volume

                              mass (of liquid) = density   x    volume

                                        = 1.8 x 200

                                        = 360 g

          total mass (beaker + liquid) = 50 + 360 = 410 g     [Ans]

Hope this helps!

A 21 N block rests on a horizontal surface. The coefficients of static and kinetic friction between the surface and the block ar
Georgia [21]

Answer:

a)15 N

b)12.6 N

Explanation:

Given that

Weight of block (wt)= 21 N

μs = 0.80 and μk = 0.60

We know that

Maximum value of static friction given as

Frs = μs m g = μs .wt

by putting the values

Frs= 0.8 x 21 = 16.8 N

Value of kinetic friction

Frk= μk m g = μk .wt

By putting the values

Frk= 0.6 x 21 = 12.6 N

a)

When T = 15 N

Static friction Frs= 16.8 N

Here the value of static friction is more than tension T .It means that block will not move and the value of friction force will be equal to the tension force.

Friction force = 15 N

b)

When T= 35 N

Here value of tension force is more than maximum value of static friction that is why block will move .We know that when body is in motion then kinetic friction will act on the body.so the value of friction force in this case will be 12.6 N

Friction force = 12.6 N
