Let x = the first number
      y = the second number
-------------------------------------
First: set up the equations.

Four times a first number: 4x
Decreased by a second number: - y
Is 4: = 4

4x - y = 4.

The first number increased by: x +
three times the second number: 3y
is -25: = -25

x + 3y = -25.
------------------------
You can make your system of equations now.

4x - y = 4
x + 3y = -25

I would use substitution to solve these.

To do substitution, isolate a variable first, in one of the equations. I would probably isolate x in the second equation.

x + 3y = -25
x = -25 - 3y

Now, you can substitute -25 - 3y into 4x - y = 4, as x.

4x - y = 4
4(-25 - 3y) - y = 4

Now just solve for y.

-100 - 12y - y = 4
-13y = 104
y = -8

Now, you can put -8 as y into one of the original equations, I'll just use 4x - y = 4.

4x -  y = 4
4x - (-8) = 4
4x + 8 = 4
4x = -4
x = -1

So the first number is -1, and the second -2.

let x be 1st no. and y be the 2nd no.

so 4x - y = 4

and x + 3y = -25

re-arrange first eqn y = 4x - 4

substitute y into second eqn

x + 3(4x - 4) = -25

13x - 12 = -25

13x = -13

x = -1

y = 4(-1 - 1) = -8

A town has a population of 7000 and grows at 4% every year. What will be the population after 13 years, to the nearest whole num
Gennadij [26K]

Answer:

10640

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to see how much the town grows, you would need to do 7000 times .04, which gets 280. Then, multiply what by 13 to get 10640.

Line K has the equation 9x-4y=-5x4.
Yuki888 [10]

Answer:

y = (9/4)x + 2, given that I've assume the correct meaning of "-5x4."

Step-by-step explanation:

A parallel line has the same slope as the reference line,

The reference line is 9x-4y = -5x4, as written.  I'm not sure the 4 belongs, but I'll assume it is written correctly.  I'm not sure if the term -5x4 is meant to mean -5x^4, -20x or -20.  I'll assume -20:

9x-4y = -20

Put the equation into standard slope-intercept form:  Y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept (the value of y when  x = 0).

-4y = -9x - 20

y = (9/4)x + 5

This line has a slope of (9/4).  The parallel line will have the same slope.

y = (9/4)x + b

We can find a value of b that would shift this line to include (4,7) by using this point in the equation:

y = (9/4)x + b

7 = (9/4)(4) + b

7  = 9 + b

b = 2

The equation of a line parallel to the reference line is y = (9/4)x + 2

Harvey worked 36 hours this week. He earns $28.46 an hour. How much did he earn this week
Snowcat [4.5K]

Answer:

$1,024.56

Step-by-step explanation:

Simple math, So what you would do to find this answer would be taking the amount of money hes earning an hour and times that by how many hours he worked that week. so $28.46 x 36 = $1,024.56
