How does California's Safely Surrendered Baby Law help parents who are unable to care for their babies? by ensuring that parents
kotegsom [21]

Answer:

This report concludes that, although the intent of the safe-surrender law is admirable, it

does not impose sufficient requirements on any state agency to publicize its availability, thus

potentially reducing the law’s effectiveness. Moreover, the State’s failure to provide consistent

funding for promoting the law may further reduce its effectiveness. However, the Department

of Social Services (Social Services) did conduct a media campaign from October 2002 to

December 2003 to increase public awareness of the safe-surrender law. We also found that

many counties have developed interesting approaches to increase public awareness of the law.

Although Social Services’ initial efforts exceeded its statutory obligations, it has not developed

any further goals for conducting additional activities to publicize the safe-surrender law

because it believes it has fulfilled its minimal obligations. The department also stated that the

ongoing awareness efforts at the local level, combined with the lack of an “alarming increase”

in the number of abandoned babies mitigate the need for additional efforts. However, our

audit revealed that Social Services is using understated statistics on abandoned babies when it

concludes that further efforts to heighten public awareness are unnecessary.

A nursing instructor instructs the nursing students that surfactant is a substance needed to facilitate neonatal breathing. Whic
mars1129 [50]

Answer:

The best answer to the question: Which statements made by the nursing students indicate understanding regarding the presence of surfactant, would be, B: 3, 4 and 5.

Explanation:

Pumonary surfactant is a lipoprotein substance that is present in the alveoli of the lungs and which ensure that the process of breathing is possible. Pulmonary surfactant is vital in neonates, and when they are born prematurely, surfactant will be provided so that the neonate can breathe normally, once he/she comes out of the wound. Without this administration, breathing for the newborn will not be possible. Surfactant helps to ensure lung compliance, ir prevents atelectasia (collapse of the lungs) during exhalation and it also helps to recruit collapsed alveoli. It is also a means by which gas exchange between the air and the lungs is increased, improving the exchange of O2 and CO2 and finally, it is important for immunity in the lungs. Understanding all this is vital for any nurse, and especially pediatric nurses.
