<span>Adenosine triphosphate
(ATP) is generated by anaerobic glycolysis in the cytoplasm when the body needs
energy for peak muscular activity. It produces two ATP molecules per molecule
of glucose, which sustain the body from strenuous physical activity and generate
lactic acid as a by product.
