Explain why energy in most ecosystems must flow from the sun, then to autotrophs and finally to heterotrophs, in that order.

Answer:

The sun provides light to plants and algae, which make up the first trophic level of an ecosystem called the producers. The autotrophs are what heterotrophs consume, particularly herbivores, which make up the second trophic level. Now these herbivores are also consumed by other heterotrophs, those who are in the third trophic level.

It has to be in this order because members of the ecosystem rely on the existence of the other. Without the sun, there would be no autotrophs. Without autotrophs, there would be no heterotrophs. The trophic level represents how energy is transferred from one level to the other. The autotrophs get energy from the sun and the heterotrophs get part of that energy by consuming the autotrophs.

Temka [501]
The independent variable would be the amount of sunlight because that is what you are testing and the dependent variable would be the length of time the mice slept because it is what you are measuring. The constants would be everything else water, food, cage size, exercise wheel, and temperature because they stay the same.

Explain what occurs during an endothermic reaction?
NARA [144]

An Endothermic Reaction occurs when the energy used to break the bonds in the reactants is greater than the energy given out when bonds are formed in the products

An Exothermic reaction is one that releases energy in the form of heat or light.

Exothermic Reactions: Rust and Setting of Cement
Endothermic Reactions: Photosynthesis and evaporation.

One example of an endothermic reaction is Ice packs. The packs that deliver instant cooling when a seal inside is broken. It works by having water and ammonium nitrate in separate compartments and then when you break the seal between them they mix. The reaction is endothermic so it takes in heat from the surroundings so the pack become cold.

I hoped this helped you!
