To do so, minus 5 from both sides. 5-5=0, so the equation becomes: 3x <0.75x-5 . Then you subtract 0.75 from both sides. This now looks like this: 2.25x <-5 . Now, divide both sides by 2.25. X=(-5/2.25).

Basically you can do anything as long as you do it to both sides except divide by zero

3x+5<0.75x
I don't like decimals so multiply the whole thing by 4
12x+20<3x
subtract 3x from both sides
9x+20<0
subtract 20 from both sides
9x<-20
divide both sides by 9
x<-20/9
