A cluster of furuncles, or boils, is called a carbuncle. The cluster is caused by bacterial infection, most commonly with Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
clusters of furuncles are connected subcutaneously, causing deeper suppuration and scarring. They are smaller and more superficial than subcutaneous abscesses.
