To find the complex roots we solve x^2 + 2x + 4 = 0:-

Using the quadratic formula x = [-2 +/- sqrt(2^2 - 4*1*4)] / 2

= -1 +/- (sqrt( -10)) / 2

= -1 +  0.5 sqrt10 i  and -1 - 0.5 sqrt10 i
