75% of an unknown number of people is 480 people.
We translate this sentence into an equation and we solve the equation.
Let x = number of people who were surveyed.

75% of x = 480

75% * x = 480

0.75x = 480

x is being multiplied by 0.75. We want x alone, so we divide 0.75x by 0.75 to get x alone. Since we must do the same to both sides of an equation, we divide both sides of the equation by 0.75.

\dfrac{0.75x}{0.75} = \dfrac{480}{0.75}

x = 640

Answer: 640 people were surveyed.

Answer:

 640 people

Explanation:

480 people = 75 %
x people = 100%

480 : x = 75 : 100
75 x = 48,000
x = 48,000 : 75
x = 640

Write the percent shown by each model. Explain your reasoning.
Sphinxa [80]
A) 1/3=33 1/3%
B) 2/3=66 2/3%
C) 1/6=16 2/3%

A) YOU CAN TURN THE FRACTION 1/3 INTO A DECIMAL WHICH WILL BE AROUND 0.333. THEN YOU TURN THE DECIMAL INTO A PERCENT. YOU CAN MOVE THE DECIMAL TWO PLACES TO THE RIGHT. THAT GIVES YOU 33.3% OR 33 1/3% THIS ALSO APPLIES TO B BUT WITH 0.666 AND 66.6%

FOR C, YOU DO THE SAME. 1/6 AS A DECIMAL IS 1.666. YOU MOVE THE DECIMAL TWO PLACES TO THE RIGHT. 16.6% OR 16 2/3%

I don´t understand this: Lin’s father is paying for a $20 meal. a) He has a 15%-off coupon for the meal. How much is the discoun
Naddika [18.5K]

You'll have to set this up as two separate problems. First, we want to take 15% off the original $20 bill. To do this, you're going to multiply 20 by .15, which gives you $3. So, 15% off $20 is $17.

Now, we want to find 7% of the new bill, so we're going to multiply 17 by .07 to get $1.19, and add it to the $17, making the final bill $18.19. You could also multiply $17 by 1.07 to get your final total without the extra step in the middle, but only do that once you're comfortable with the math.

nlexa [21]
Jack was planting a tree. He was to dig a hole that was 3 feet deep for every 5 feet of tree height. How deep should he dig the hole for a tree that is 17feet high.

Calculations

\frac{DEEP}{HIEGHT}

Cross multiplication

\frac{3 DEEP}{5 HIEGHT} = \frac{x}{13}

5x = 2 x 13

Divide by 5 to isolate x

\frac{5x}{5} = \frac{51}{5}

x = 10.2

Answer = 10.2
