The work of a student trying to solve the equation 4(2x – 1) = 11 + 3x + 5 is shown below: Step 1: 4(2x – 1) = 11 + 3x + 5 Step

2: 8x – 4 = 16 + 3x Step 3: 8x + 3x = 16 – 4 Step 4: 11x = 24 Step 5: x = 2.18 In which step did the student first make an error and what is the correct step?

4(2x - 1) = 11 + 3x + 5

Step 1:  4(2x - 1) = 11 + 3x + 5

Well, this technically isn't really a step, but it's not incorrect.

Step 2 : 8x - 4 = 16 + 3x

This is correct, because we simplified, as well as added like terms together correctly.

Step 3 : 8x + 3x = 16 - 4

This is INCORRECT because when moving variables and integers from either side of the equal sign, you must change the sign! If it was a positive, then you must turn it into a negative, and if it's a negative, you must change it into a positive!

Our correct step 3 would be : 8x - 3x = 16 + 4

~Hope I helped!~

What are the coordinates of the point on the directed line segment from (3, 3) to (7,−5) that partitions the segment into a rati
Annette [7]

Answer:

The coordinates of the point is (5.5, -2)

Step-by-step explanation:

Okay, what we want to do here is to get the point that divides the line that joins the points (3,3) to (7,-5) in the ratio 5 to 3

Generally, given the ratio a:b and we want to divide the line joining the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) in that ratio, we use the condensed formula below;

Let’s call the point dividing the line in the given ratio z.

The coordinates of Z is;

{(bx1 + ax2)/(a+b), (by1 + ay2)/(a+b)}

In this question (x1,y1) = (3,3)

While (x2,y2) = (7,-5)

while a:b = 5:3

Substituting these values into the coordinate equation for point z, we have ;

{((3(3) + 5(7))/(5+3), ((3)(3) + 5(-5))/(5+3)}

= {44/8 , -16/8} = {5.5, -2}

What is 26/48 simplest form
Phoenix [80]

Answer:

13/14

Step-by-step explanation:

The GCF between 26 and 48 is 2. So divide 26/2=12 and 48/2=13  13/14. And after that you can not simplify anymore so 13/14 is 26/48 in it's simplest form.

Hope it helps!

7. point A(-2, 7); parallel to the line y = - 3x - 4
aniked [119]

Answer:

y=-3x+1

Step-by-step explanation:

plug in point into x and y, replace -4 as a +b(or any other variable to represent y intercept)

therefore,

7=-3(-2)+b

7=6+b

1=b

y=-3x+1

Which types of polygons are the faces of a tetrahedron?
valentina_108 [34]

The answer is the option A, which is: A. Equilateral triangles.

The explanation for this answer is shown below:

By definition, a tetrahedron is a solid in three dimensions that has: six sides, four vertices and four triangular faces. These faces are equilateral triangles, which means that all the sides are equal and all the interior angles measure 60 degrees.

The tetrahedron is also called "triangular pyramid".
