A study by the National Athletic Trainers Association surveyed random samples of 1679 high school freshmen and 1366 high school

seniors in Illinois. Results showed that 34 of the freshmen and 24 of the seniors had used anabolic steroids. Steroids, which are dangerous, are sometimes used in an attempt to improve athletic performance. Researchers want to know if there's a difference in the proportion of all Illinois high school freshmen and seniors who have used anabolic steroids. Perform an appropriate hypothesis test using the 4-Step Process.

Answer:

We conclude that there is no significant difference in the proportion of all Illinois high school freshmen and seniors who have used anabolic steroids.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a study by the National Athletic Trainers Association surveyed random samples of 1679 high school freshmen and 1366 high school seniors in Illinois.

Results showed that 34 of the freshmen and 24 of the seniors had used anabolic steroids.

Let p_1 = <u><em>proportion of Illinois high school freshmen who have used anabolic steroids.</em></u>

p_2 = <u><em>proportion of Illinois high school seniors who have used anabolic steroids.</em></u>

SO, Null Hypothesis, H_0 : p_1=p_2      {means that there is no significant difference in the proportion of all Illinois high school freshmen and seniors who have used anabolic steroids}

Alternate Hypothesis, H_A : p_1\neq p_2      {means that there is a significant difference in the proportion of all Illinois high school freshmen and seniors who have used anabolic steroids}

The test statistics that would be used here <u>Two-sample z test for</u> <u>proportions</u>;

                        T.S. =  \frac{(\hat p_1-\hat p_2)-(p_1-p_2)}{\sqrt{\frac{\hat p_1(1-\hat p_1)}{n_1}+\frac{\hat p_2(1-\hat p_2)}{n_2} } }  ~ N(0,1)

where, \hat p_1 = sample proportion of high school freshmen who have used anabolic steroids = \frac{34}{1679} = 0.0203

\hat p_2 = sample proportion of high school seniors who have used anabolic steroids = \frac{24}{1366} = 0.0176

n_1 = sample of high school freshmen = 1679

n_2 = sample of high school seniors = 1366

So, <u><em>the test statistics</em></u>  =  \frac{(0.0203-0.0176)-(0)}{\sqrt{\frac{0.0203(1-0.0203)}{1679}+\frac{0.0176(1-0.0176)}{1366} } }

                                     =  0.545

The value of z test statistics is 0.545.

Since, in the question we are not given with the level of significance so we assume it to be 5%. <u>Now, at 5% significance level the z table gives critical values of -1.96 and 1.96 for two-tailed test.</u>

Since our test statistic lies within the range of critical values of z, so we have insufficient evidence to reject our null hypothesis as it will not fall in the rejection region due to which <u>we fail to reject our null hypothesis</u>.

Therefore, we conclude that there is no significant difference in the proportion of all Illinois high school freshmen and seniors who have used anabolic steroids.

A pet store sells goldfish and hermit crabs,
Elis [28]

Answer:

Cost = \$28

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Represent Goldfish with g and hermit crabs with h.

The first statement, we have:

7g + 3h = 26

The second statement, we have:

4g + 5h = 28

Required

Determine the selling price of 6 goldfish and 4 hermit crabs

The equations are:

7g + 3h = 26 --- (1)

4g + 5h = 28 --- (2)

Make g the subject in (2)

4g + 5h = 28

4g = 28 - 5h

Divide both sides by 4

g = \frac{1}{4}(28 - 5h)

Substitute \frac{1}{4}(28 - 5h) for g in (1)

7g + 3h = 26

7(\frac{1}{4}(28 - 5h)) + 3h = 26

\frac{7}{4}(28 - 5h) + 3h = 26

Multiply through by 4

4 * \frac{7}{4}(28 - 5h) + 4*3h = 26*4

7(28 - 5h) + 4*3h = 26*4

Open bracket

196 - 35h + 12h = 104

196 -23h = 104

Collect Like Terms

-23h = 104-196

-23h = -92

Make h the subject

h = \frac{-92}{-23}

h = \frac{92}{23}

h = 4

Substitute 4 for h in g = \frac{1}{4}(28 - 5h)

g = \frac{1}{4}(28 - 5*4)

g = \frac{1}{4}(28 - 20)

g = \frac{1}{4}(8)

g = 2

This implies that:

1 goldfish = $2

1 hermit crab = $4

The cost of 6 goldfish and 4 hermit crabs is:

Cost = 6g + 4h

Cost = 6*\$2 + 4*\$4

Cost = \$12 + \$16

Cost = \$28

The graphs of linear functions f and g are shown on the grid below.
BigorU [14]

Answer: g(x)=3f(x)

Step-by-step explanation:

So we know it isnt a translation. Which eliminates the first 2 answer choices. So its between the last 2. If it were 1/3 the grap would have been steeper.

I hope this helps!

Find the area of each parallelogram
slega [8]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  1. 120 m²
  2. 26 ft²

Step-by-step explanation:

The area is given by the formula you show. The height is measured perpendicular to the base.

1. A = bh = (10 m)(12 m) = 120 m²

2. A = bh = (6.5 ft)(4 ft) = 26 ft²

If you borrow $894 for four years at an interest rate of 3%, how much interest will you pay?
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer:

$1006.20

Step-by-step explanation:

This is an example of compound interest.

To work this out you would first have to convert the percentage into a decimal, you can do this by dividing 3 by 100, which gives you 0.03. You are dividing by 100 as percentages are out of 100. Then you would add 1 to 0.03, which gives you 1.03. This is because you are finding percentage increases. Then you would multiply 894 by 1.03 to the power of 4, which gives you 1006.20. This is because you are finding 3 percent and adding it on and then finding 3 percent of that, this is why we put it to the power of how much time.

1) Divide 3 by 100.

3/100=0.03

2) Add 1 to 0.03.

0.03+1=1.03

3) Multiply 894 by 1.03 to the power of 4.

894*1.03^{4}=1006.20
