A man with anorexia and nausea consumes 500 calories per day mostly as sweets. why is his serum albumin 5.5 g/dl?
miskamm [114]
The serum albumin test measures the amount of albumin in the blood. Albumin is synthesized in the liver, the normal range is 3.5 to 5 g/dl. 5.5 is above the normal values, which is slightly abnormal. Abnormal values of serum albumin is caused by malfunctioning liver caused by excessive consumption of alcohol and smoking. A man with anorexia, without any other vices that would affect the liver won't affect the serum albumin value that much.
