Answer:

y=x+14

x+y=58

You sold 22 tickets and your friend sold 36 tickets.

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Let´s name the variables as the following:

x = quantity of tickets sold by you

y = quantity of tiquets sold by your friend

2. As you sold 14 more than your friend, the first equation is:

y=x+14 (Eq.1)

3. As together sold 58 tickets, the second equation is:

x+y=58 (Eq.2)

4. Replacing the Eq. 1 in Eq. 2:

x+x+14=58

2x+14=58

2x=58-14

2x=44

x=\frac{44}{2}

x=22

Then you sold 22 tickets

5. Replacing the value of x result in Eq.1:

y=x+14

y=22+14

y=36

Therefore your friend sold 36 tickets.

X - 14 = y
x + y = 58

x is the amount you sold
y is the amount your friend sold

Can you please help me with this math problem

This question is nasty. It sounds like you should be finding area of the figure you see. I'll do that first, although I don't think it's the right answer. (But it might be).

Area Trapezoid = (b1 + b2) * h / 2
b1 = 8
b2 = 12
h = 5
Area Trapezoid = (8 + 12 ) * 5 / 2
Area Trapezoid = 20 * 5/2
Area = 50 square feet.

The problem is that no lumber yard will cut that for you without charging you. The practical answer is 12 * 5  = 60 square feet is what you will have to buy. Then you cut out the triangles for yourself.
