Let O(5, -5) be the center of the circle, and P(6, -2) be a point on this circle.

The distance between points O and P, that is |OP|, is the radius of this circle,

We use the distance between 2 points formula:

|OP|=\sqrt{ (x_2-x_1)^{2} + (y_2-y_1)^{2} }=  \sqrt{ (6-5)^{2} + (-2-(-5))^{2} }
= \sqrt{ 1^{2}+ (-2+5)^{2}} = \sqrt{1+9}= \sqrt{10} (units)

Answer: \sqrt{10} units

What are the coordinates of the center of the ellipse shown below?
photoshop1234 [79]

Answer:

Option D (7, -3)

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that the general equation of an ellipse has the form:

\frac{(x-h)^2}{a^2} + \frac{(y-k)^2}{b^2} = 1

Where the point (h, k) are the coordinates of the center of the ellipse

In this case the equation of the ellipse is:

\frac{(x-7)^2}{4} + \frac{(y+3)^2}{16} = 1

Then

h=7\\\\k = -3

So The coordinates of the center of the ellipse are (7, -3)

The total length of pencils A, B and C is 29 cm. Pencil a is 11 cm shorter then pencil B, and pencil B is twice as long a pencil
satela [25.4K]

The length of pencil A is 5 cm

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Let the length of pencil A be "x"

Let the length of pencil B be "y"

Let the length of pencil C be "z"

<em><u>The total length of pencils A, B and C is 29 cm</u></em>

Therefore,

length of pencil A + length of pencil B + length of pencil C = 29

x + y + z = 29 ------------ eqn 1

<em><u>Pencil A is 11 cm shorter then pencil B</u></em>

x = y - 11 ------- eqn 2

<em><u>Pencil B is twice as long a pencil C</u></em>

y = 2z

z = \frac{y}{2} ------ eqn 3

<em><u>Substitute eqn 2 and eqn 3 in eqn 1</u></em>

y - 11 + y + \frac{y}{2} = 29\\\\2y + \frac{y}{2} = 29 + 11\\\\\frac{4y+y}{2} = 40\\\\5y = 80\\\\y = 16

<em><u>Substitute y = 16 in eqn 2</u></em>

x = 16 - 11

x = 5

Thus length of pencil A is 5 cm

Parallel to y=−3x−2, through (-3, -3)
VashaNatasha [74]

Answer:

Use the formula y-y1=m(x-x1) <---memorize this. The m here is the slope.

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation is in y=mx+b form

Remember mx=slope and b=y-intercept

The question wants you to find the equation that is Parallel to y=-3x-2 and passes through (-3,-3)=(x1,y1)

Parallel=same slope -3x

So now all that's left is to plug into the equation.

y-(-3)=-3(x-(-3))

y+3=-3(x+3) ----> positive - a negative = positive so x-(-x)=x+x

y+3=-3x-9 ----> distribute like terms(subtract 3 from 3 and 3 from -9)

y=-3x-12 - This is your answer, you can check by graphing it.
