A1=-6
So, your first term will start with -6. That automatically gets rid of answers
#1 and #2.

an = 4 × an-1
This means that each subsequent term will be the previous number multiplied by 4.

-6 x 4 =
-24 ×4 =
-96 x 4 =
-384 × 4 =
-1536 x 4 =
-6144

The answer would be #4. BUT:

Here's the weird thing: this is only right if it's literally telling us that the first term, "a1", has a value of -6. The term is fixed looking at it this way, which is what I based my answer #4 on. IMO, it seems like it's assigning a fixed value.

However, the other way to look at it is "a1" defined as a variable.
If a1 is a variable, rather than being defined as the actual first term, then logically, the same math can be applied to answer #2, just starting with -24. This means the answer would then be #2.

So, its either #2 or #4 depending on whether "a1" is defined as a variable or if it's fixed as the actual value for the first term, respectively.

Kind of a poorly written question...unless there's some info missing that may help to steer us in the right direction.

Hope this helps!

Please help! Area of part of a circle!!!
Helga [31]

The sector (shaded segment + triangle) makes up 1/3 of the circle (which is evident from the fact that the labeled arc measures 120° and a full circle measures 360°). The circle has radius 96 cm, so its total area is π (96 cm)² = 9216π cm². The area of the sector is then 1/3 • 9216π cm² = 3072π cm².

The triangle is isosceles since two of its legs coincide with the radius of the circle, and the angle between these sides measures 120°, same as the arc it subtends. If b is the length of the third side in the triangle, then by the law of cosines

b² = 2 • (96 cm)² - 2 (96 cm)² cos(120°)   ⇒   b = 96√3 cm

Call b the base of this triangle.

The vertex angle is 120°, so the other two angles have measure θ such that

120° + 2θ = 180°

since the interior angles of any triangle sum to 180°. Solve for θ :

2θ = 60°

θ = 30°

Draw an altitude for the triangle that connects the vertex to the base. This cuts the triangle into two smaller right triangles. Let h be the height of all these triangles. Using some trig, we find

tan(30°) = h / (b/2)   ⇒   h = 48 cm

Then the area of the triangle is

1/2 bh = 1/2 • (96√3 cm) • (48 cm) = 2304√3 cm²

and the area of the shaded segment is the difference between the area of the sector and the area of the triangle:

3072π cm² - 2304√3 cm² ≈ 5660.3 cm²

An athlete knows that when she jogs along her neighborhood greenway, she can complete the route in 10 minutes. It takes 20 minu
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

10 miles per hour.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent athlete's walking speed.

We have been given that her jogging rate is 5 mph faster than her walking rate, so athlete's jogging speed would be x+5 miles per hour.

\text{Distance}=\text{Rate}\cdot \text{Time}

10 minutes = 1/6 hour.

20 minutes = 1/3 hour

While walking, we will get D_{\text{walking}}=x\frac{\text{miles}}{\text{hour}}\cdot \frac{1}{3}\text{hour}

D_{\text{walking}}=\frac{x}{3}

While jogging, we will get D_{\text{jogging}}=(x+5)\frac{\text{miles}}{\text{hour}}\cdot \frac{1}{6}\text{hour}

D_{\text{jogging}}= \frac{(x+5)}{6}

Since athlete is covering same distance while walking and jogging, so we can equate both expressions as:

\frac{x}{3}=\frac{x+5}{6}

Cross multiply:

6x=3x+15

6x-3x=15

3x=15

\frac{3x}{3}=\frac{15}{3}\\\\x=5

Therefore, athlete's walking speed is 5 miles per hour.

Jogging speed: x+5\Rightarrow 5+5=10

Therefore, athlete's jogging speed is 10 miles per hour.
