We can find the number of moles of PH₃ using ideal gas law equation
PV = nRTwhere
P - standard pressure - 101 325 Pa
V - volume - 250 x 10⁻⁶ m³
n - number of moles
R - universal gas constant - 8.314 Jmol⁻¹K⁻¹
T - temperature - 273 K
substituting the values in the equation
101 325 Pa x 250 x 10⁻⁶ m³ = n x 8.314 Jmol⁻¹K⁻¹ x 273 K
n = 0.011 mol
therefore mass of PH₃ = 0.011 mol x 34 g/mol = 0.374 g
mass of PH₃ is 0.374 g

Stock solutions are highly concentrated solutions regularly made in laboratories to reduce preparation time and must be diluted
Paraphin [41]

Answer:

0.9 L.

Explanation:

The following data were obtained from the question:

Molarity of stock solution (M1) = 10 M

Molarity of diluted solution (M2) = 1 M

Volume of stock solution (V1) = 100 mL

Volume of water needed =.?

Next, we shall determine the volume of the diluted solution. This can be obtained as follow:

Molarity of stock solution (M1) = 10 M

Molarity of diluted solution (M2) = 1 M

Volume of stock solution (V1) = 100 mL

Volume of diluted solution (V2) =.?

M1V1 = M2V2

10 × 100 = 1 × V2

1000 = V2

V2 = 1000 mL

Next, we shall determine the volume of water needed. This can be obtained as follow:

Volume of stock solution (V1) = 100 mL

Volume of diluted solution (V2) = 1000 mL

Volume of water needed =?

Volume of water needed = (Volume of diluted solution) – (Volume of stock solution)

Volume of water needed = V2 – V1

Volume of water needed = 1000 – 100

Volume of water needed = 900 mL

Finally, we shall convert 900 mL to litre (L). This can be obtained as follow:

1000 mL = 1 L

Therefore,

900 mL = 900 mL × 1 L / 1000 mL

900 mL = 0.9 L

Therefore, the volume of water needed to dilute the solution is 0.9 L.

A galvanic (voltaic) cell has the generic metals X and Y as electrodes. X is more reactive than Y , that is, X more readily reac
koban [17]

Answer:

(a) X electrode

(b) Y electrode

(c) Y electrode

(d) X electrode

(e) Y electrode

Explanation:

A galvanic (voltaic) cell has the generic metals X and Y as electrodes. X is more reactive than Y, that is, X more readily reacts to form a cation than Y does.

In the X electrode occurs the oxidation whereas in the Y electrode occurs the reduction.

Oxidation: X(s) → X⁺ⁿ(aq) + n e⁻

Reduction: Y⁺ˣ(aq) + x e⁻ → Y(s)

Classify the descriptions by whether they apply to the X or Y electrode.

(a) anode. Is where the oxidation takes place (X electrode).

(b) cathode. Is where the reduction takes place (Y electrode).

(c) electrons in the wire flow toward. Electrons in the wire flow toward the cathode (Y electrode).

(d) electrons in the wire flow away. Electrons in the wire flow away from the anode (X electrode).

(e) cations from salt bridge flow toward. Cations from the salt bridge flow toward the cathode (Y electrode) to maintain the electroneutrality.

Why does lithium have a higher ionization energy compared to sodium?
frez [133]

Answer:

There are 11 protons in a sodium atom but only 3 in a lithium atom, so the nuclear charge is much greater. ... The only factor left is the extra distance between the outer electron and the nucleus in sodium's case. That lowers the ionization energy.
