Explain a real life situation where you may use trig ratios to find measure in right triangles.

One example is if you wanted to measure the height of a tall building. You'll need to measure the distance from where you're standing to the base of the building. You'll also need the angle of elevation. To get the angle of elevation, start by looking completely horizontal, then tilt upward until your eyeline reaches the top of the building. Once you have those two things (the side and angle) you can use the tangent ratio to find the height. This is because

tan(angle) = opposite/adjacent

where in this case
angle = angle of elevation
opposite = height of building
adjacent = distance from your position to the base of the building

It takes a bit of algebra, but the opposite side can be solved for. You'll most likely need a calculator to compute the tangent ratio.

{tan(60) + tan(10)}/{1 - tan(60)*tan(10)} - {tan(60) - tan(10)}/{1 + tan(10)*tan(60)}

<span>ii) Taking LCM & simplifying with applying tan(60) = √3, the above simplifies to: </span>

<span>= 8*tan(10)/{1 - 3*tan²(10)} </span>

<span>iii) So tan(70) - tan(50) + tan(10) = 8*tan(10)/{1 - 3*tan²(10)} + tan(10) </span>

<span>= [8*tan(10) + tan(10) - 3*tan³(10)]/{1 - 3*tan²(10)} </span>

<span>= [9*tan(10) - 3*tan³(10)]/{1 - 3*tan²(10)} </span>

<span>= 3 [3*tan(10) - tan³(10)]/{1 - 3*tan²(10)} </span>

<span>= 3*tan(30) = 3*(1/√3) = √3 [Proved] </span>

<span>[Since tan(3A) = {3*tan(A) - tan³(A)}/{1 - 3*tan²(A)}, </span>
<span>{3*tan(10) - tan³(10)}/{1 - 3*tan²(10)} = tan(3*10) = tan(30)]</span>

Ellen had 2 ¼ metres of ribbon. If she used ⅓ of this, how much did she use?
iragen [17]

Answer:

She used 3/4 meters of ribbon.

Step-by-step explanation:

2 1/4 divided by 3.

2 1/4= 9/4

9/4 divided by 3

9/4*1/3

43.
aleksklad [387]

Answer:

4.12 kg

Step-by-step explanation:

Regular cakes:

1 dozen normal sponge cakes: 264 g plain flour

Vegetarian cakes:

1 dozen cakes: 264 g plain flour

4 eggs are replaced by 4 * 30 g of flour = 120 g flour

total flour for 1 dozen vegetarian cakes = 264 g + 120 g = 384 g

Proportion for regular cakes:

12 cakes to 264 g flour = 100 cakes to x grams flour

12/264 = 100/x

12x = 26400

x = 2200

2200 g flour for 100 regular cakes

Proportion for vegetarian cakes:

12 cakes to 384 g flour = 60 cakes to y grams flour

12/384 = 60/y

12y = 384 * 60

12y = 23040

y = 1920

1920 g flour for 60 vegetarian cakes

Total flour needed:

2200 g + 1920 g = 4120 g

4120 g * 1 kg/(1000 g) = 4.12 kg
